DATABASE

A database is an organized collection of data, today typically in digital form. A database has four basic types:

Document-oriented database Embedded database Graph database Hypertext database

Document-oriented database

A document-oriented database is a computer program designed for storing, retrieving, and managing document-oriented, or semi structured data, information.

Embedded database

These databases consist of data developed by individual end-users. Examples of these are collections of documents, spreadsheets, presentations, multimedia, and other files.

Graph database

Graph database is a kind of No SQL database that uses graph structures with nodes, edges, and properties to represent and store information.

Hypertext database

Hypertext databases are particularly useful for organizing large amounts of disparate information. For example they are useful for maintaining online encyclopedias.

Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access is a powerful program to create and manage your databases. Microsoft Access, also known as Microsoft Office Access, is a database management system from Microsoft that combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software-development tools. It is a member of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, included in the Professional and higher editions or sold separately.

How to use Microsoft access

Microsoft Access software allows you to create databases, tables, forms and other reports. You may customize your own files or use built-in templates to create them. Access provides the tools and features you need to track sales figures, customer data or other company-related information using a row-and-column format. You may create a database for personal use or share information across departments

Functions and Uses of MS-Access

MS-Access is a database management tool of Microsoft. This is given with MS-Office package. There is need for a database management tools like Access for all corporate and private organizations etc., where large amount of data to be handled. When large amount of data is being saved and processed the name "Database" is used. Database management is the process of manipulating the stored data to the requirements.

 Advantages of MS-Access

MS-Access has very easy operating procedure compared to other database management tools that are available. Also this is fairly cheaper and can be installed in most of the computers. Another advantage is, it provides excellent graphical user interface (GUI) whereas most database management tools provide console operating interface (CUI). This feature creates excellent User-friendly environment.

Special Features of MS-Access

Table creation is simply done by design or wizard options. Data entered and stored in MS-Access can easily be exported or pasted into spreadsheets for further analysis. As part of the MS Office Suite, MS Access integrates seamlessly with MS Word and Excel.
