Innovative organisations embrace the transformative value of data-driven decisions; success is synonymous with its ability to create a clear framework and embed the right data culture, people, culture, technology and processes to derive real business value.
Data and Analytics Roadshow 2018 is case-study driven, non-technical program, designed to show how the public sector can get a holistic view of data, and use it to make smarter business decisions: Grow revenue or optimise spend, enhance operational capabilities, manage enterprise risks and compliance mandates, as well as create happier customers. Network with senior executives who have a vested interest in D&A, brainstorm and bounce ideas with speakers and delegates; take insights to strengthen your 2018 game plan.
As Australia’s/New Zealand’s leading executives tasked with driving the data agenda in the public sector, you will engage in discussions with transformational data and business leaders who will share their journeys in operationalising analytics to derive business value though:
• Creating an analytics strategy and roadmap
• Building up analytics capability with getting the right skill mix and talent
• Determining the appropriate data technology that best support the mission, requirements and capabilities
• Securing data throughout the data analytics process and storage in order to protect the integrity and confidentiality of information
• Innovative data linkage to improve accessibility and capability.
“This is the second year I have attended the data and Analytics roadshow and it did not disappoint. Always a great opportunity to think differently about data and expand on the ideas of others” - Comcare

Whole-of-Government Reforms: Architecting a Clear, Robust Data Strategy
Linking data sets is a highly valuable tool for research and analysis across policy, legislation, investment, prevention and intervention measures; especially in efforts to protect children, combat family violence and build patient-centred health initiatives. Out-dated data management infrastructures and data silos in various formats and various degrees of quality call for the dismantling of legal, cultural, and technological barriers to information sharing.• Practical solutions to address the lack of willingness among agency or department
personnel • Building a federated framework that allows control and flexibility in the way data is
organised, processed, analysed and deployed with tools and sponsorship to ensure data integrity
• Articulating desired outcome/s so that parameters are set to extract, secure and share specific data
• Prioritising insights based on ‘size of the prize’, whilst considering these gains in relation to speed and complexity
• Measuring economic and qualitative successes as evidence of value created to fund future projects
• When priorities change: Realignment of data strategy and resources so that it continues to meet the changing needs of the organisation
09:20
Data Culture: Collaborative Problem Solving Focused on Delivering Human and Economic Value• Engaging early with stakeholders to articulate the value of D&A to the business and to
investors who increasingly see D&A as a transformative strategy• Anchoring the data mindset at the core of the organisation so that policy development and
programme design start with data questions; then mapping the findings back to business issues and challenges it addresses
• Translating requests for solutions to specific business problems into actionable D&A projects
• Fostering an overarching enterprise-wide data driven approach, not point solutions, when identifying data requirements and analytics capabilities that underpin investment decisions
• Defining data sharing methods within the agencies for the current purpose, and in addressing future issues that may not be anticipated.

Agenda
11:00
Information, Privacy and Stakeholder Management Greater Customer Service and Experiences
Unearthing massive stores of sensitive public information and combining these for big data insights are turnkey steps for program improvement, workforce operational gains and cost reduction. However, before these benefits can be realised, the public’s heart has to be won over. Not an easy feat as myriad privacy concerns loom and the Australian public are hesitant to share the enthusiasm.• Privacy: Redefining the term and give it meaning and relevance for the modern digital
world• Exploring the connections between privacy, time and an inability to hit delete• Establishing confidence that the agency can be trusted to balance the benefits with risks
to privacy.• Interpreting the value of statistics/data in terms meaningful to your stakeholders to incite
excitement and communicate valuable social and economic insights or useful new apps.
11:20
Building Ethical Algorithms and Deploying AI: Using New Forms of Data and Code to Securely Deliver Greater Customer Service and Experiences
Customers expect great, personalised, engaging, seamless service as a baseline. Meeting that expectation poses a challenge when a balance has to be struck with other competing priorities: cost and operational efficiencies and improved risk management practices. Get it right to gain the trust of the public; get it wrong and suffer their ire.• Balancing competing priorities, understanding social expectations, and accounting for
different types of disadvantage• What AI can do for us today: Automating decision making using new forms of data and
algorithms to bring greater customer service and expand your capacity to transact in a cost-effective way
• Eliciting the ethical requirements of the system from its designers, and converting requirements into a mathematical objective to establish trust and a common language for sharing via common data standards and data sharing agreements
• Monitoring the algorithm’s ability to meet that objective • Tailoring the entire offering to better align to customer needs to create a more natural,
intuitive and personal “conversation” with their clients• Mastering the application of advanced analytics and big data to uncover greater
possibilities
11:40

PANEL: The session will focus on the topics below as well as additional comments from the audience:• What are the biggest challenges preventing successful implementation of Data Analytics
initiative in the Public Sector?• Leadership and the organisation: Finding the right people and data skills to build capacity • Creating a comprehensive data strategy, tied to business outcomes, to get the best of data
across your entire organisation• Data management and governance: cultural change posed by shared and open data
paradigms• Overhauling architecture and technology for digital transformation• Next step in creating reliable and state of the art data analytics implementations to improve
service delivery• How to embed and nurture a progressive data culture for the organisation’s service
delivery and innovation plans• Exciting apps to use data to transform the way we interact with our citizens• The next disruptors: Preparing for innovations and advanced capabilities
