Results
Depending on vehicle size the braking distance on dry ground can increase
from 10% up to 33%
The impact is more pronounced when the overload is on the front axle
vs. the rear axle
Especially at small velocities the increase of the braking distance is tremendous
An increase in braking distance can have an immediate impact
on the likelihood of accidents and may result in heavy casualties!

4.2 Project: PISA survey
59
Experiences of commercial truck drivers regarding load securement
1.470 commercial truck drivers
21 different countries
Average age 50 years
-
60
Many drivers state that in fact they do have enough time for load
securement
Many drivers state that they would like to have more practical training in
load securement
Many drivers only achieved a barely passing grade in educational driving
tests
Many educated drivers have significant knowledge deficits. Detailed
questions could not be answered
4.2 Project: PISA survey
60
-
61
Many drivers wish to be educated in seminars regarding load securement
26 % have never participated in a load securement seminar
25% indicate that their company has no formal procedure for load
securement training
28 % state that their vehicle is unsafe for the secure transport of goods
10 % know that their cargo is not properly secured
