Techniques & StyleThe majority of
Darren Aronofsky’s films
belong to the psychological thriller or a
unique surrealistic genre.
Some of his works such as “Black Swan” and “Requiem
for a Dream” are shown through camerawork that puts
the audience right in the middle of situations they can
hardly bare to watch.

Quotes From the Director
“Yeah, it's important to respect your audience. Audiences are pretty sophisticated and smart. We've all seen so many movies and we know how they all work
out. It's nice to allow people to talk about things afterwards and not just be hand-fed stuff.”
“If you want to be a filmmaker, the best thing you can bring to the world is your own story. And there is something that is very personal to you and something that
you have your own singular connection to that if it really is important to you, there are people all over the planet that will relate to it. So, the mistakes happens
when you try to figure out what everyone likes because the only thing you can be
sure of is what you like. And the reality is what you like ends up being what a lot of
people like because we are all going through a very similar story.”
“...to make a good film you really gotta fight and work hard, so to do
that for something you don't believe in ... I'm not gonna do that.”

Quotes About the Director
“Aronofsky’s intense films focus
on well developed characters that
embody particular characteristics
that are inherently human...”
- Generation Film!
“...without any doubt he is one of the
most talented directors of this
generation, all of his films are
memorable, his writing and story-telling
is crushing, devastating and beautiful
and not so many films today can
generate those kind of feelings in such a
way.”- OurBrainHurtsALot.com
“As it usually goes with new indie directors, the conflicts on Aronofsky's
first two films were all about low budgets rather than creative control. In
both movies, Aronofsky dealt with themes of obsession and extremes of
human behavior, which encouraged his fearless, experimental style.”

Legacy & Influence
Aronofsky has distinguished
himself as a filmmaker who
strives to bring forth the
sometimes brutal subject that
is the human experience
through “beautifully horrific”
and surreal imagery.
He has set a new standard for complex character
development and the thriller genre that many struggle to
match.
