celebrating Swachhta Pakhwada during December 16th -31st , 2019. The ICAR Head Quarters in

New Delhi, all the Research Institutes and KVKs took active part in the Swachhta Pakhwada

activities and conducted a wide range of activities which included Organising Cleaning of public

places, community market places and/or nearby tourist/selected spots. Debate on Swachhata at

the DARE/ICAR establishments, Seminars, awareness camps, rallies, street plays and expert

talks in the ICAR Institutes. Some activities with glimpse as follows:

Cleaning of public places, community market places and/or nearby tourist spots

The selected tourist places of Nandi Hills and temple areas outside ICAR-NIVEDI campus

were cleaned by all the members of the team with slogans about the “Swachh Bharat-Ek

Kadam Swachhta Ki Ore”, “Clean Village-Healthy Village”. We collected lots of plastic

materials spilled on the road side and dumped into the municipality bin. Apprised each

household about proper disposal of waste material including their segregation.

ICAR- Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute Avikanagar,

AVIKANAGAR:

Swachhta Pakhwada program was organized at Dadawadi (Jain Mandir) on 25.12.2018.

Dadawadi is situated at 5 km from CSWRI campus and many devotees visit this mandir on daily

basis. Staff of the Institute and members of ladies club assembled and proceeded to Malpura by

busto take active participation in Swachh Bharat Mission. After reaching Malpura bus stand,

swachhta awareness rally was organized. Swatchchta rally started from mapura bus stand and

went up to dadawadi. During the rally, awareness wascreated by holding placards on the

importance of swachchta and removal of single use plastics from daily use. Slogans were

shouted on cleanliness to spread awareness among the residents, shopkeepers and devotees. The

road that leads to Dadawadi was cleaned by involvement of CSWRI staff and Nagarpalika staff.

All the plastics, weeds and other debris were removed and made the temple front clean and neat.

Finally, swachhta pledge was taken by CSWRI staff, Malpuranagarpalika members, security

staff and policemen. During the sanitation drive, Director (Acting) of the institute Dr.A.B.

Sahoo, highlighted the importance and benefits of cleanliness and hygiene in daily life and

briefed the Swachchtaaction plan of the Institute

Cleaning of nearby tourist spot (Himayatsagar dam) was done by the staff members of the

institute.

ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal:

In today‟s awareness campaign on “cleanliness and sanitation in the residential colony

outside the campus” was organized at „Anganwadi‟ located at Omega industrial area, Anand

Nagar Village, Bhopal. In this awareness campaign, the children and students residing in the

slum area Anand Nagar, Bhopal were given essential information on hygiene and sanitation, and

how they affect our health and mind. Besides, the procedure of cleaning of hands in a scientific

way was also demonstrated. The children also performed hand-cleaning exercise on the spot. The

soaps and hand-napkins were distributed among the children. Also, regular cleaning activity of

the institute campus was also done.

As per scheduled programme Swachtta awareness at public places at Chambaghat, Solan in

which the visitor and local people were involved. They were sensitized about the cleanliness and

better sanitation habits. They were advised to keep the natural water resources clean and

conserve them for better health and for future use by the next generations.

ICAR- Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode:

ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune:

Cleaning drive and awareness campaign was organised at Shaheed Hemant Karkare Garden,

Gondhale nagar, Pune on 25.12.2019 in association with officials of Pune Municipal

Corporation. In the activity, the garden was cleaned, awareness about cleanliness and discarding

use of single use plastic was spread to general public and cleanliness pledge was taken. Mr. Sunil

Bankar, Corporator; Mr. Amar Shere, Mr. SachinLadhkat, Mr. Pravin Gaikwad, , Health

Inspectors; Mr. Laxman Waghmode and Balaji Dhongre, Supervisors and Sevaks from Pune

Municipal Corporation participated in the programme along with general public visiting the

garden. Dr. D. S. Yadav, Senior Scientist coordinated the activity.

ICAR – National research Centre on Litchi, Muzaffarpur:

The sounds and noice of childrens playing in the campus bring liveliness to the social life in the

campus. On Day 10, 25.12.19, a cleanliness drive was undertaken at Children‟s park inside the

campus. Since weeds inside the lawn grow at a faster rate which outgrow the lawn grass at the

later stages, an intensive weeding operations was executed to make sure that the problematic

weeds are being taken care.

ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning Nagpur:

The institute (ICAR-NBSS-LUP, Nagpur) along with its regional stations are regularly observing

cleanliness every day basis and all the staff are taking keen interest in thhe SWACHHTA

ABHIYAAN etc. Regular cleaning work with plantation drive are still under practice at HQ

including removal of uunwanted vegetaion and cleanliness is being carried out. The date-wise

All staff members of the centre participated in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activity in the

Regional Centre Dr. RajendraHegde, Principal scientist & Head of the centre, Dr. B.P.

Bhaskar, Principal scientist and Dr. R. Srinivasan, Scientist, SBA committee member

organized a demonstration of compost making from farm waste under swatch

bharatabhiyan program..

Dr. RajendraHegde, explained about different kinds of compost making (Coimbatore,

Indore and Bangalore methods and vermin-composting) and importance‟s of use of

compost and different steps involved in compost making.

to the office staffs.

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad:

Around 60 people, including staff members and labourers working at Hayathnagar Research

Farm (HRF) of ICAR-CRIDA participated in SwachhtaPakhwada activities and undertook

clearing of plastic waste and general cleaning around the premises including entrance, ticket

booking counter and parking area of MahavirHarinaVanasthali National Deer Park and Tourist

Spot adjacent to Hayathnagar Research Farm.

ICAR- Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture Bhubaneswar:

A swachhata drive under Swachhata Pakhwada was conducted at Hirapur (64 yogini

Temple) on 25December, 2019by ICAR-CIFA. Director ICAR-CIFA, Dr. B.R. Pillailed the

team comprising scientists, technical officers and skilled supporting staff of Aquaculture

Production and Environment Division. Temple premises were cleaned and awareness was

created among people to engage in cleanliness. Tourists were also informed to shun the use

of single use plastics and adopt cleanliness and sanitation in daily habit.
