James is from Dumas but now lives in Canyon.

James pointed out that the welding program is not just for men, that his daughter Sarah has also completed the welding program and is working in welding.

Built biodiesel reactor. Used cooking oil and converted it to useable fuel.

This course is a 16 week course with 4 hours each week.

The idea was to build the structure to make the fuel, but not to actually make the fuel.

The problem solving aspect of building the project was placed on the students.

There were 3 groups of students who rotated out tasks on the project.

Used reusable materials for the project.

Tech writing helped students create procedure manuals.

Instrumentation helped create measurement device for product in the project.

Lot of plumbing done on the project.

Electrical aspect of project as well.

Roy commended James for having students working as a team. Group worked very well together.

Danielle stated that 17 students have graduated from the welding program and 15 of those are working in welding, 2 of them are also women.

Valero representatives stated that an INE certificate or degree does look good on a resume when applying at Valero.

Jerry Terry discusses Truck Driving:

240 HR Course, 8-5 Monday to Friday, 6 weeks. Current cost is $3960 and is set to increase by $200 in the Fall to cover the cost of fuel and software programs.

There used to be 190 places in Texas to take a CDL test, there are now only 25. It is taking anywhere from 8-12 weeks to get a test scheduled for a student which costs Amarillo College more money if retraining is needed before testing.

Amarillo College is working to become a 3rd party testing site so that we can test our own students. The instructor who teaches the students cannot give the test, so an instructor who hasn’t taught those students has to give the test.

Universal Standards being put into place for everyone everywhere in the US.

CDL will eventually be a federal license. Feb 2020 all CDL license will have to come through an accredited program.

CAP in Amarillo is currently 20 students, CAP is going to be raised to 8 students for Dumas.

Equipment is limited and expensive.

Page 7:  · Danielle stated that 17 students have graduated from the welding program and 15 of those are working in welding, 2 of them are also women. Valero representatives stated that an

We are currently spending more driving time with each student, 110 gallons of fuel is now used to teach a student when it used to be 70 gallons per student.

Currently no bus training.

AC has 19 CDL trucks and 23 trailers.

Diesel and Automotive program do the maintenance on the trucks

Brain Jacob to discuss Diesel and Automotive:

4 course classes for any advanced cerficate + Intro to Automotive.

Basic/Advanced/AAS

Having truck driving program to work on is an advantage to students in that they know the truck has to be repaired properly as it is going back on the road to teach CDL Students.

Tool kits come with each course.

Estimated program cost is: $9,526.

A new diesel bay is being created for students to have more room to work and learn.

Danielle thanks the instructors for their work with students, and thanks everyone for attending the meeting.
