The 2019/2020 winter season will open with a new and captivating event organized by the Contini Art Gallery in their Cortina d’Ampezzo location. The ex-hibition, entitled Stories of People and Things trav-erses the formative stylistic studies that Paolo Ve-gas (Biella, 1973) has confronted. A process made of his studies, technical abilities and above all, a strong dose of intuition, which combined make Ve-gas an outspoken, vibrant and innovative artist.His initial formation began in the field of publicity through important alliances with noted photogra-phers such as Giovanni Gastel, Giac Casale and Joe Oppedisano. In his works Vegas takes his in-spiration from this world however, he experiments with a completely inedited and personal expres-sion. What renders Vegas’ work so peculiar is the precision with which he composes the photograph-ic image, beginning with one idea, which later transforms into an instantaneous moment full of narration. Vegas constructs his works precisely as if they were ad hoc settings for advertising projects; he accurately selects the location, the cast, style and screenplay to create - in one snapshot - a compo-sition that is carefully laid-out and rich in details. Once he captures the images, he moves on to an accurate post-production work where he assem-bles the narration as if for a short film and brings it to life through saturated chromatics, a play on light and shadows and a strong, emotive pop art aesthetics. Vegas’ work is characterized by a distinctive and easily recognizable mark, for which we could use the term “clonation”. Photos of the subject taken in quick succession, simultaneously and in the same place as if he or she were moving around the set, narrate a story and transmit a memory, an experi-ence or a fragment of his or her life. It is precisely this personal touch that gives Vegas’ work the abili-

La stagione invernale 2019/2020 si apre con un nuovo e affascinante evento organizzato dalla Galleria d‘Arte Contini presso la propria sede di Cortina d’Ampezzo. L’esposizione dal titolo Stori-es of People and Things attraversa il percorso e la ricerca stilistica affrontata dall’artista Paolo Vegas (Biella, 1973). Un percorso fatto di studio, capacità tecniche e, soprattutto, di una forte dose di intui­zione, che rende Vegas un artista schietto, vitale ed innovativo.Formatosi in campo pubblicitario attraverso im­portanti collaborazioni con i grandi nomi della fotografia – come Giovanni Gastel, Giac Casale e Joe Oppedisano – nelle sue opere Vegas prende spunto da questo mondo, sperimentando tuttavia un linguaggio inedito e personale. Ciò che rende peculiare l’opera di Vegas è la precisione con la quale l’artista compone l’immagine fotografica, partendo da un’idea che poi trasforma in un’i­stantanea carica di narrazione.Vegas costruisce le proprie opere proprio come viene progettato ad hoc un set pubblicitario; se­leziona accuratamente location, cast, stile e sce­neggiatura per catturare in un unico scatto una composizione minuziosa e ricca di dettagli. Una volta eseguiti gli scatti si passa ad un accurato la­voro di post­produzione nel quale Vegas monta, come fosse un cortometraggio, la sua narrazione, che prende vita attraverso cromatismi saturi, giochi di luci e ombre e un’estetica pop di forte impatto emotivo.L’opera di Vegas è caratterizzata da un tratto di­stintivo e immediatamente riconoscibile che si traduce nel termine “clonazione”. Il soggetto vie­ne ritratto più volte simultaneamente nel medesi­mo ambiente, come se si stesse muovendo nella scena, raccontandoci una storia e trasmettendoci un ricordo, un’esperienza o un frammento di vita. l’opera di Vegas capace di emozionare e coinvol­gere lo spettatore, invitato a contemplare e deci­frare l’universo sociale e morale, estetico e creati­vo indagato dall’artista. L’opera Vintage series cloning. Cloning Paul Mc-Cartney, ad esempio, racchiude la complessa ri­cerca estetica e stilistica di Vegas, presentandoci una giovane donna che, ritratta in più azioni, ci racconta il proprio emisfero emotivo, sognante e malinconico, con in sottofondo la musica di Paul McCartney. Ed è proprio la musica a diventare tangibile, quasi udibile, grazie alla presenza del disco in vinile applicato direttamente sulla stampa fotografica. L’introduzione di un oggetto fisico, appartenente alla scena o inerente ad essa, è un ulteriore tratto distintivo nei lavori dell’artista, che rende l’opera unica e irripetibile e che crea una netta separazione tra la riproducibilità foto­grafica e l’ideazione di un’opera d’arte. È proprio l’aggiunta di questo elemento che permette la creazione di quelle che lui stesso definisce BioClo-ning; opere che, oltre a riprodurre il soggetto nel­lo spazio, indagano l’intimo dei personaggi inse­rendo elementi biografici riguardanti esperienze, passioni e ricordi.Nel corso della mostra, la ricerca concettuale ed emotiva proprie di Vegas si concretizzano in un nuovo progetto innovativo: l’interazione imme­diata con il fruitore, il quale potrà diventare pro­tagonista di un’opera d’arte. L’artista, attraverso la sua sapiente tecnica fotografica e l’innata capa­cità di indagare e rintracciare aspetti fondamen­tali della vita dello spettatore, creerà opere perso­nali realizzate su misura, nelle quali il soggetto verrà “clonato”, manipolato, ricostruito ed infine immortalato in un ritratto fotografico assoluta­mente unico ed esclusivo.

The work Vintage series cloning. Cloning Paul Mc-Cartney for example marks the conclusion of a complex aesthetic and stylistic study by Vegas, presenting us with a young woman – photographed doing various activities – that precisely narrates a poignant hemisphere, dreamy and melancholic, with music by Paul McCartney in the background. The music becomes perceptible, almost audible thanks to the presence of an lP record applied di-rectly on to the photographic image. The introduc-tion of a physical object pertaining to the set-up or inherent to it, is one more distinctive trait used by the artist in his works which makes them unique and unrepeatable; it creates a clear separation be-tween reproducible photography and the creation of an artwork. The addition of this element permits the creation of that which the artist defines Bio-Cloning, meaning works, which in addition to repro-ducing the subject in a certain space, also investi-gate the intimacy of the persons by inserting biographical elements based on their experiences, passions and memories. During the exhibition, Vegas concretizes conceptu-al and emotive studies in a new innovative project: the immediate interaction with the customer who can become the protagonist of a work of art. The artist, through his skilled photographic technique and an inborn ability to research and trace the fun-damental aspects of the life of the spectator, will create personalized works in which the subject will be “cloned”, manipulated, reconstructed and ulti-mately immortalized in an absolutely unique and exclusive photographic portrait.
