Two rules of interpretation Two rules of interpretation must be appliedmust be applied

1. Keep it in its context.2. Note to “whom” the message is delivered.• Every scholar agrees that the context of 10-11

relates to Antiochus Epiphanies. • The who of the context is Israel, Daniel’s people

10:14, 11:16, 45, 12:1. • Therefore, it should follow that when one

examines chapter 12, it is a continuation of the previous topic. Thus the discussion about the end of times would not fit in regard to the world but the end of days as the last days of Israel being the vessel in which the Messiah would arise.

back and forth

• Amos 8:12, “They will go to and fro to see the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.”

Three & one half years• This three and one-half year period is well

known in other passages of Biblical prophecy: Daniel 7:25; 9:27; 12:7; Revelation 11:2; 11:3; 12:6; 12:14 and 13:5.

• Also, one may remember the drought that was brought upon Israel during Elijah’s day that lasted three and a half years.

• Understanding Jewish numerology one would be quick to point out that this number (also indicated by 1260 days) simply represents a time of unrest or trouble for the people of God.

Page 9: Daniel Chapter 12 K. Sno

Hearing but not understanding• He was like many of the prophets who

heard and did not understand but wrote it down so we may have faith in times of trouble (1 Pet. 1:10; Eph. 3:5).

• Taking all these together, one could make the argument that God is going to purify and preserve His people, and has set a limit of days to the time of trouble.
