The DANDELION WISHES CHARITY GALA COMMITTEE is fundraising for the new purpose built Monash Children’s Hospital currently under construction and opening early 2017. The gala will raise the profile of the Monash Children’s Hospital, and celebrate the amazing work the doctors, nurses and administration staff provide Victorian children. The money raised will be used to:

• Give our children access to the latest medical equipment for faster diagnosis and a positive, fun time during their treatment

• Give our children the very best through a paediatric surgical skills center to train brilliant paediatric surgeons

• Give our children access to life saving new medicines for their treatment• Give our children operating suites with the latest technology for treatment and training• Give our children education and communication facilities to help them stay connected with

family and school during treatment• Create the Wellness Wonderland

Currently Monash children’s Hospital are treating children in wards that were built for adults. They want to create a welcoming caring environment where parents can sleep alongside their ill child in comfort. The new purpose built children’s hospital brings with it a new era for Monash Children’s Hospital, yet the hospitals mission and purpose remains unchanged – to provide the best possible care and support for sick children and their families.

• One of only two tertiary paediatric facilities for Victorian children and their families• Outpatient consulting rooms and Allied Health Therapy spaces• Purpose-built paediatric facility where clinical services will be delivered in a child and

family-friendly environment• The only location in Victoria which provides foetal surgery, thalassemia and paediatric cardiac

A letter from our committee co-chairsDear Friends,

We are very honored and privileged to be organising the Dandelion Wishes Charity Gala. Our mission is to support the new Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH) and help ensure it has the necessary funding to deliver a world class healthcare facility for the children of Victoria.

We were personally touched by MCH with our son Ashton, who was born extremely premature at 24 weeks. Ashton spent the first 6 months of his life in the Monash NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Due to complications he had 18 hospital admissions over the following 2 years, spending a combined 30+ weeks back in hospital. Including the Monash PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) after almost losing him on several occasions.

22 months after Ashton was born we had our 5th child. Madeleine was born premature at 29 weeks, and we spent the next 3 months in NICU. With three other children at home, and several admissions for Ashton during the same period, this was without doubt the hardest period in our lives.

Spending day after day at your child's bedside, watching them struggle to survive, you experience the emotional rollercoaster of amazing highs and devastating lows. You come to the realisation that life is a paradox, both amazingly strong and incredibly fragile at the same time.

These experiences made us realise how little control we have over the illnesses and/ or injuries our children suffer. However, what we can control is the quality of facilities, technology, training & medicine we provide to assist in the treatment of our children.

We are very excited about the future of Monash Children’s Hospital, and what it will provide Victorian families. The new MCH will provide a purpose built facility to meet the special needs of children and their families. It will create a child friendly environment where they can continue their intellectual and physical development, while receiving the best treatment available to aid in their recovery.

As part of the Monash Children's Hospital Foundation we will provide ongoing support and fundraising for the new children’s hospital, and know with your support the Dandelion Wishes Charity Gala will be a big part of this endeavour. Sincerely,
