The husband and wife violin/piano duo have been performing together since 2008 and specialize in performing not only standard classical repertoire, but also works that incorporate popular styles, namely jazz and blues. Dr. Christopher Shelt conducts the 80 voices of the Belhaven Choral Arts programs plus the Christmas Tree 80th Anniversary Choir, made up of participants from the tree’s history. decemBer 2choral and Vocal Arts: Handel’s messiah sundAy, 2:30 pm, concert HAll (mAtInee) For more than decade, Dr. Christopher Shelt has given every member of the Belhaven Choral and Vocal Arts programs the opportunity to perform Messiah. Belhaven’s performance is excerpted from the entirety of Handel’s oratorio, maintaining the continuity of its comprehensive biblical portrait of the life and work of Jesus; his birth, death, resurrection, return, and eternal reign. Dr. Shelt will conduct the 80 voices of Belhaven Concert Choir and Chorale, along with soloists and orchestra in concertato style, contrasting large choir and small choir textures. JAnuAry 18 & 19opera Artslittle opera for children: the pied piper of Hamelin by seymour BarabFrIdAy, JAnuAry 18, 7:30 pmsAturdAy, JAnuAry 19, 10 Am, 2:30 pm And 7:30 pm, concert HAllEver hear the expression “You’ve got to pay the piper?” It comes from a very old story dating from the Middle Ages about a Piper in a pied (multi-colored) outfit who has a flute endowed with magical powers. belhaven Opera Arts is proud to produce another Seymour Barab operatic adaptation of the classic, The Pied Piper of Hamelin. American Seymour Barab (1921-) received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Opera Association. Kurt Vonnegut says: “Barab’s music is full of magic. He proved to an atheist that God exists.” Dr. Christopher Shelt and Belhaven Vocal Arts students present this clever one-act Barab classic.
