Horner APG 6/2004 – 9/2008 UL Coordinator and Lead Technical Writer

I was hired at Horner (http://www.heapg.com/) to bring the UL (product safety and compliance testing) department into compliance with requisite UL rules for electronic controllers used in various applications. I was also the lead technical writer at Horner APG. (UL – Underwriter’s Laboratories http://ul.com/)

Responsibilities: Document Control and Technical Writing, Web Site Updates, Security Camera System Installation and Updates, UL and CE, ETL Intertek and ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) type (environmental/electrical) compliance testing, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and related.

Hired at Horner APG to make sure the Compliance Department was UL Certified, which was done January 26, 2006 (Testing to UL508, UL1604, UL746C, CSA C22.2, ISA 12.12.01 Standards). Certified the Compliance Department with Intertek, ETL Semko in February 2007.

I assigned documentation projects to overseas technical writers and maintained all documentation for Horner APG, LLC. This included assigning document control numbers, technical writing, editing, assigning projects to technical writers overseas, publishing manuals to the web, updating documents...

Later projects included certifying Horner APG with ABS (http://www.eagle.org/) so APG products could be placed on steel (ocean going) ships, and working with AT&T for Horner APG on SIM cards for a cellular modem project.

Avid Technology 1996 – 2004 Customer Advocate/Technical Support/Engineering Support (http://www.avid.com/)

At Truevision/Pinnacle/Avid I was a Systems Engineer. This position included/involved a Help Desk component (phone and written support), Technical Writing, Beta Testing and also included being the CEO's Customer Advocate & Senior Technician. The company started as Truevision, was purchased by Pinnacle Systems, and then was purchased by Avid.
