ABERNETHY MEDIA PROFESSIONALS

It’s been a busy summer for Abernethy Media Professionals. We’ve welcomed new clients such as Celanese, Mary Kay and Taylor Publishing. We’re also happy to continue our relationships with Brinker, Frito Lay and Baylor — with multi-day shoots for all of the above. One particularly fun recent project is a national spot for Regus Offices that we shot with the Canon Mark II 5d. And off the set, AMP has expanded its service offerings through the creation of a sister company, AMP Events, providing turnkey corporate meeting and event production. Headed by event veteran, Patty Lewis, AMP Events is happy to welcome Hospice Plus as its newest client.

AMP Productions and Events would like to extend an invitation to fellow DPA members to drop in, say hello, and tour our studio (including green screen set-up). Give us a shout and we’ll make sure to roll out the welcome mat.

EYE TO EYEEye to Eye Productions has been recently involved with Mary Kay, supporting the Hispanic interviews needed during Seminar 2010. Crew involved was Stephen Cabrero, Fred Bartzen, Bob Chestnut, Jason Sack and Shelley Johnson from Speakeasy Prompters. This involved shooting in different locations at the convention center in Dallas. Also recently Stephen Cabrero and Reba Blevens were involved in a production for segments to run during breaks on the jumbotron at TCU. Stephen got a chance to work with his son Elan, where he helped setup and ran a B camera for cutaways, and he did not wear any UT paraphernalia where he attends college!

GREEN GRASS STUDIOS ANIMATES NEWEST PAPA JOHN’S SPOTPartnering with The Loomis Agency, Green Grass Studios provides animation for the new Papa John’s TV spot that hit the Texas market July 26. The spot, titled “Video Game,” includes legendary Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and “Papa” John Schnatter going head to head in the new Cowboys Stadium to play a video game (and where else to play the game than on the world’s largest HDTV suspended above mid-field). The video game features Jones and Schnatter as muscular robotic characters, prepared to combat.

The spot was created by The Loomis Agency, a Dallas-based advertising agency, and directed by Tom DeNolf of DeNolf Films. Editorial duties were handled by Post Asylum, while the music composition, scoring, and sound effects were done by Luminous Sound Studios.

Founded in 2003, Green Grass Studios is an independent Dallas-based full-service animation and visual-effects design studio. Green Grass Studios supported the “Video Game” production team by bringing the Jones and Schnatter characters to life through advanced animation. The characters dueled in a 3D environment created to replicate the new Cowboys Stadium in all of its glory.

Magic VideoThis is the 8th year that Magic Video has produced the TEXO (formerly Quoin) Awards Night. Once again, we provided the creative theme for the show as well as all of the video elements for it — cameras, record, live switching and playback of the 11 pre-produced videos we made for them. Each of the videos featured at least one TEXO member reenacting a scene from a famous sports themed film. Each member was beautifully blended into their scene and each clip got wonderful reactions from the crowd.

The event took place at the new Cowboys Stadium — a beautiful venue that provided both challenges and great opportunities. After some wrestling with the daylight streaming in early on in the dinner, the video elements shined and we were able to showcase them on the stadium’s giant end zone screen. The members of TEXO and the organizers of the event had a great night and plans are already starting to form for next year’s show.

DPA member The Movie Institute (“MI”), a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, presented its tenth anniversary moviemaking camp “Kamp Hollywood” at fellow DPA member MediaTech Institute’s facility the last week of July. 40 young people participated in the camp this year and all were honored for

their accomplishments at a ceremony and screening Sunday, August 1 at Don Ross Nabb’s Show Business Studio facility in Building Four of the Dallas Communications Complex. The camp is sponsored and endorsed by the Texas Film Commission and also sponsored by DPA members Post Asylum and Linda McAlister Talent with a special donation by DPA member Donatelle Mascari. Another important sponsor is Women in Film-Dallas, who provided a scholarship to the camp for a qualifying young lady.

Kamp Hollywood mentors young people 10-18 in the creation of a short film integrating both production and acting. The participants learn what it is really like to write, produce, direct and totally create an Indie style short film. The camp participants also learned what it was like to create a 30 second commercial spot for a real client. This year’s client, USANA Health Sciences (also a camp sponsor), took a keen interest in the

commercials and actually set up “people’s choice” instant voting internationally by USANA associates for the two competing commercials. The winner, Trey Wooton, won a complete Roxio software package. USANA is becoming a favorite for nutrition in Hollywood as well as in high-end sports such as the Olympics, and MI is fortunate to be partnered with them for fundraising opportunities.

The camp’s industry panel discussion on graduation day consisted of many

DPA members, who kindly donated their Sunday afternoon to mentoring young hopefuls at Kamp Hollywood.

Now that the camp has completed its tenth year, The Movie Institute plans to go beyond the summer camp with an expansion over the next 18 months. A myriad of programs from cinematography to animation, for both young people and adults, will be offered. To keep up with these new programs, or to know more about how to help your own health and at the same time help the Movie Institute gain more funding for its expansion of community programs, you can visit the Movie Institute web site for updates and information at www.movieinstitute.org.

IT CA ME FROM DA LLA S 6Skeletons from the Closet!

Thursday, October 21, 2010 @ 7:30 PM Doors open @ 6:30

Studio Movie Grill Dallas, 11170 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75243

As in the past, we will showcase films, commercials, corporate videos and even some home movies — all of which share some dubious distinctions in terms of debatable quality, questionable production values and poor taste — all in good fun, of course. We will also be treating the audience to some prime examples of higher quality production of films made in and around the area. Naturally, all presentations will be labeled with our ever-present theme: It Came From Dallas!

Another highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Dallas Producers

Association Film Pioneer Award. This year’s recipient will be one of our DPA co-founders and a longtime veteran of the Dallas production scene — Bob Dauber.

Of course, the primary purpose of the evening is that of fund raising. Your advertising sponsorship for this event will enable the DPA to continue to provide much needed money for the Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA) and its ongoing efforts to reach state legislators and allow the production incentive program to grow. This is in addition to many other worthy causes supported by the DPA. It’s an excellent

opportunity for exposure for your business as well as serving to underwrite the important work the Association performs year in and year out.

This year, we have developed a very special incentive for Presenting and Supporting sponsor levels of It Came From Dallas! For the first time, we are putting the DPA List-Serve into play that allows for some truly outstanding advertising exposure for your company in a way not previously offered. In essence, Presenting and Supporting Sponsors will have the opportunity to reach more than 1100 readers with each message

posted on the DPA Listserv. That amounts to tens of thousands of impressions for your company or business.

Please review the sponsorship materials for details and be sure to lend your support to the sixth annual edition of the DPA’s hallmark event.

Thanks for your time, consideration, and ongoing support of the Dallas Producers Association.

PBS AWARD WINNERKERA-TV, the public broadcasting station for North Texas, received international attention this week with the receipt of two World Medals from the New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards. The short film “The Chip That Jack Built: Jack Kilby and the Invention of the Microchip” was honored with a Gold World Medal in the category of History and Society and a Silver World Medal in the category of Society and Social Issues at the awards presentation held on May 3, 2010, at the American Airlines Theater in New York. The New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards received entries from more than 30 countries. The Awards place KERA’s work among the best in the world.

The Chip That Jack Built profiles Nobel Prize winner Jack Kilby, the Texas Instruments engineer who co-invented the integrated circuit, also known as the

microchip. Jack Kilby’s invention prompted a technological revolution. The microchip is found in most of the electronic devices we use today. The Chip That Jack Built was produced in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the filing of the key patents for the integrated circuit. The film can be viewed online at www.kera.org/chip.
