DIRK ON THE NBA’S ALL-TIME SCORING LIST: Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki ranks sixth all-time in career scoring with 30,829 points. Wilt Chamberlain ranks fifth ahead of Nowitzki with 31,419 points. Nowitzki became the sixth player in NBA history and the first international player to reach the 30,000-point plateau with a 15-foot baseline jumper over Larry Nance Jr. at the 10:58 mark of the second quarter against the L.A. Lakers on 3/7/17 (the basket gave him 20 points for the game and exactly 30,000 for his career). Nowitzki, who was assisted by Devin Harris on the play, fittingly achieved the milestone on a fadeaway. He joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292) and Chamberlain (31,419) in the NBA’s exclusive 30,000-point club (Julius Erving totaled 30,026 points in both the ABA and NBA). Nowitzki also became just the third player in league history to score 30,000 points with one franchise, joining Malone (Jazz) and Bryant (Lakers). Through 3/7/17, there had been 4,142 players who appeared in an NBA game and Nowitzki was one of only six with 30,000 points. A sellout crowd of 20,484 was on hand at American Airlines Center to witness Nowitzki hit the 30,000-point mark. Prior to Nowitzki, Jordan was the only player to achieve the milestone at home. The 13-time All-Star entered the Mavericks’ game against the Lakers on 3/7/17 needing 20 points for 30,000. He poured in 20 points in the game’s first 13 minutes and 2 seconds – the second-fastest he has ever reached the 20-point mark in his career (Nowitzki tallied 20 points 10:49 into a game vs. Chicago on 12/27/01, back when he was only 23 years old). Coincidently, Nowitzki also eclipsed 20,000 career points against the Lakers back in 2009-10 (also at home on 1/13/10). Nowitzki posted 18 points in the opening quarter against Los Angeles on 3/7/17, matching the highest-scoring first quarter of his career (18 vs. Memphis 2/7/07). The big German finished with a game-high 25 points (9-13 FGs, 3-4 3FGs, 4-4 FTs), all in the first half, to go along with 11 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action on 3/7/17. In 2015-16, Nowitzki passed Shaquille O’Neal (28,596) for sixth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with a 17-foot baseline jumper over Andrea Bargnani at the 9:51 mark of the second quarter at Brooklyn on 12/23/15 (the basket gave him 10 points for the game and 28,597 for his career). DIRK’S 20TH SEASON IN DALLAS: The 2017-18 campaign marks Dirk Nowitzki’s 20th season with the Mavericks. He joins Kobe Bryant (Lakers) as the sole members of the NBA’s 20-year, only one-team club. Sacramento’s Vince Carter, who is also in his 20th season, joins Nowitzki as one of seven players in NBA history to play 20 seasons overall (Carter is the only other active player with 20-or-more years of NBA experience). The five non-active players that have played 20-plus NBA seasons are: Kevin Garnett (21), Robert Parish (21), Kevin Willis (21), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (20) and Bryant (20). When Nowitzki and Carter squared off in Dallas on 10/20/17, they became just the second set of players with 20-or-more years of NBA experience to go head-to-head. Back in 2015-16, Garnett (in his 21st season) and Bryant (20th) faced each other twice during the Timberwolves-Lakers season series.

20,000 MANIAACS: The Mavericks have sold out 661 consecutive regular-season home games, which is an NBA-best sellout streak. The streak began on 12/15/01 and Dallas has sold out an additional 67 playoff games during that same stretch (it’s 728 straight sellouts including playoffs). The Portland Trail Blazers (814 straight sellouts, 4/9/77-11/16/95) are the only team in NBA history with a longer consecutive home sellout streak (regular season and playoffs) than the Mavericks. The listed capacity for American Airlines Center is 19,200 but that can be surpassed because of attendance in the suites. Since moving into American Airlines Center (2001-02 season), the Mavericks have posted a home mark of 474-198 (.705) during the regular season. Dallas has sold out all 41 home games in each of the last 15 seasons (2002-17). MAVS TIE FRANCHISE RECORD WITH ONLY FOUR TURNOVERS AGAINST MAGIC: The Mavericks recorded only four miscues in their 114-99 win over the Magic on 1/9/18, tying the franchise record for fewest turnovers in a game. It marked the 10th time in team history that the Mavericks finished with only four giveaways and the first since 3/28/16 at Denver. Dallas actually had three games with only four turnovers in 2015-16 (12/28/15 vs. Milwaukee, 2/3/16 vs. Miami, 3/28/16 at Denver) but none in 2016-17 (Dallas’ season-low for miscues in 2016-17 was 5 at New Orleans on 3/29/17). DSJ RECORDS FIRST CAREER TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN 128-120 WIN AT NOLA: Mavericks rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. recorded his first career triple-double with a team-high 21 points (8-12 FGs, 5-7 3FGs) to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds and a career-high-tying (game-high) 10 assists in 31 minutes in Dallas’ 128-120 win at New Orleans on 12/29/17. Smith (20 years, 34 days) became the third-youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double (Lonzo Ball, LeBron James). It came in his 29th career game. He also became just the second rookie in Mavericks history to register a triple-double, joining Jason Kidd (Kidd had 4 triple-doubles as a rookie with Dallas in 1994-95). It was the first triple-double by a Dallas player since Raymond Felton had 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists against Washington on 12/12/15. In addition to posting a career-high 10 rebounds and a career-high-tying 10 assists at New Orleans (12/29/17), Smith also knocked down a career-high-tying five 3-pointers against the Pelicans.

DALLAS DELIVERS BRILLIANT OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE IN WIN AT NOLA: Below are some takeaways from the Mavericks’ 128-120 wire-to-wire win at New Orleans on 12/29/17:

Dallas went 22-of-39 (.564) from beyond the arc, setting a new franchise record for 3-pointers made in a game. The team’s previous regular-season record was 19 threes, which it tied twice earlier this season. The club’s previous most triples in any game (regular season or postseason) was 20 in a playoff game against the L.A. Lakers on 5/8/11 (20-of-32, .625).

Dennis Smith Jr. recorded his first career triple-double with a team-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds and a game-high 10 assists in 31 minutes. At 20 years, 34 days old, Smith became the third-youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double (Lonzo Ball, LeBron James). Smith also became just the second rookie in Mavericks history to register a triple-double, joining Jason Kidd (Kidd had 4 triple-doubles as a rookie for Dallas in 1994-95).

The Mavericks poured in a season-high 128 points. It topped their previous high of 122 points vs. Denver on 12/4.

Dallas scored 109 points through three quarters (Dallas led 109-101 after three). It marked just the eighth time in franchise history that the Mavericks had that many points through three quarters of play. The last time they scored at least 109 through three quarters was 11/21/14 vs. the L.A. Lakers (Dallas led 110-83 through three quarters in that game).

The Mavericks posted a 77-point first half (Dallas shot .690, 29-of-42, from the field, and .722, 13-of-18, from 3-point range in the opening half). It was tied for the third-highest first-half point total in franchise history. Since the team’s inception, Dallas recorded one 85-point first half, two 81-point first halves and two other 77-point opening halves. Overall, it was the sixth time in team history that the Mavericks scored at least 77 points in the opening half and the first since 4/5/09 vs. Phoenix (Dallas led 81-59 at halftime of that game).

Dallas shot a season-high 56.4 percent (22-of-39) from 3-point range (previous high: .500, twice).

The Mavericks’ bench outscored the Pelicans’ bench, 60-10. Devin Harris (17), Dwight Powell (15), J.J. Barea (14), Salah Mejri (7) and Yogi Ferrell (7) combined for all 60 of Dallas’ bench-points (they were the only players to appear as reserves for Dallas). It was the most points Dallas’ bench produced in a game all season (previous most: 59 vs. the L.A. Clippers 12/2).

Dallas scored a season-high 30 fast-break points (previous high: 22 vs. Cleveland 11/11).

The Mavericks recorded a wire-to-wire win. It was the fourth time this season that Dallas won a game without trailing at any point.

Seven players scored at least 13 points apiece for Dallas: Dennis Smith Jr. (21), Wesley Matthews (18), Devin Harris (17), Dwight Powell (15), J.J. Barea (14), Dirk Nowitzki (13) and Harrison Barnes (13). The Mavericks produced at least seven double-figure scorers for the fourth time this season (in their 37th game of the year), after they achieved the feat three times all of last year.

Dallas shot 55.4 percent (46-of-83) from the field. It marked the team’s second-best shooting night of the season (.570, 49-of-86, vs. Denver 12/4).

HARP TO THE RAFTERS: Derek Harper had his No. 12 jersey retired at halftime of Dallas’ game against New York on 1/7/18. He joined Brad Davis (No. 15) and Rolando Blackman (No. 22) as the only Mavericks to have their jerseys hung in the rafters. Harper played 12 of his 16 NBA seasons with Dallas (1983-94, 1996-97), averaging 14.4 points (.468 FG), 5.9 assists, 1.8 steals and 32.1 minutes in 872 games (620 starts). Harper stands as the

Mavericks’ all-time leader in assists (5,111) and steals (1,551). He also ranks third in franchise history in games played (872), third in starts (620), third in minutes (27,985), fourth in points (12,597), fourth in field goals made (4,899), fourth in free throws made (2,094) and fifth in 3-point field goals made (705). Former Mavericks head coach Dick Motta and several Mavericks greats spoke on Harper’s behalf during the ceremony. BARNES NOT JUST SCORING THE ROCK, BUT HITTING THE BOARDS AS WELL: Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes is averaging a career-high (team-high) 6.7 rebounds per game in 2017-18 (to go along with his team-high 18.5 ppg). Prior to this year, his best rebounding campaign came in 2014-15, when he averaged 5.5 rebounds per contest for the Golden State Warriors. Barnes has led Dallas on the glass a team-high 21 times this season (including ties), after he led the team in rebounding 12 times all of last year. He has recorded a career-high nine double-digit rebounding games this year (his previous best was 6 in 2014-15 with Golden State), after he had only one such game with Dallas in 2016-17. Barnes has posted seven double-doubles in 2017-18 – his most in any one season in his career (previous high: 6 in 2014-15). Barnes, who averaged a team-high (career-high) 19.2 points per game for Dallas in 2016-17, is leading the team in scoring again this season (18.5 ppg). He has led the Mavericks in scoring a team-high 21 times on the year. BARNES’ BUZZER-BEATER AT MEMPHIS: Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes banked in a 30-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Dallas a thrilling 95-94 win at Memphis on 11/22/17. It was his fourth career game-winning field goal in the final 5 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime, including his second with the Mavericks. Last season, Barnes hit the game-winning shot with 3.7 seconds left in the Mavericks’ 90-88 win at the L.A. Clippers on 12/23/16 (in the team’s final game before Christmas). This year, he sent Dallas into the Thanksgiving holiday on a high note with his game-winner against the Grizzlies. Barnes’ other two game-winners (in the final 5 seconds of the fourth period or OT) occurred with the Golden State Warriors: against Phoenix on 4/2/15 and at Philadelphia on 1/30/16. The only other Maverick in the last 10 seasons to hit a game-winning 3-pointer with no time left on the clock was Deron Williams, who hit a corner three at the buzzer to give Dallas a 117-116 double-overtime win over Sacramento on 1/5/16. JUNIOR DROPS CAREER-HIGH 27 POINTS VS. SPURS: Mavericks rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. poured in a career-high (team-high) 27 points (10-23 FGs, 5-11 3FGs, 2-2 FTs), including 18 in the fourth quarter, to go along with six rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes against San Antonio on 11/14/17. Smith (19 years, 354 days) became the youngest Maverick in franchise history to total at least 25 points and five rebounds in a game. The previous youngest was none other than Dirk Nowitzki, who had 29 points and eight boards at Phoenix on 4/16/99 (at 20 years, 301 days). Smith scored 20-plus points for the third time in his last four games (22 at Washington 11/7/17, 21 vs. Cleveland 11/11/17), after he failed to reach 20 in each of his first nine career games. His 18-point fourth quarter was the highest-scoring period by a Dallas rookie since Roddy Beaubois’ 21-point second quarter at Golden State on 3/27/10. DSJ POSTS 21-5-7-2-2 AGAINST CAVS: Mavericks rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. tallied 21 points (8-16 FGs, 2-6 3FGs, 3-4 FTs), five rebounds, a game-high seven assists, a team-high-tying two steals and a game-high two blocks in 30 minutes against Cleveland on 11/11/17. Smith (19 years, 351 days) joined Kevin Garnett, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving as the only teenagers in NBA history to post at least 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in a game. It was also Smith’s second straight game with 20-plus points (he had 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists at Washington on 11/7/17). He became the first Mavericks rookie to post back-to-back 20-point efforts since Roddy Beaubois in 2009-10 (Beaubois had 22 points vs. Sacramento on 3/5/10 and 24 at Chicago on 3/6/10).

J.J. BAREA RECEIVES OCTOBER NBA CARES COMMUNITY ASSIST AWARD: Mavericks guard J.J. Barea received the October NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente in recognition of his continuous relief efforts in Puerto Rico following devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. The award recognizes an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion that the league and its players share for giving back to their communities. Kaiser Permanente and the NBA honored Barea for his work to immediately initiate aid for Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. Coordinating five trips to the territory where

he was born and raised, Barea used the Mavericks’ team plane, with help from owner Mark Cuban, to personally deliver much-needed supplies in the days after the hurricane. Working with partners in North Texas, Barea has provided more than 100,000 pounds of supplies to the island, including 32 generators, 14,000 pounds of water, 10,000 pounds of food and 3,000 pounds of medical supplies, diapers, clothing, cleaning products and toiletries on the first trip alone. Barea also launched a fundraiser on YouCaring.com for families affected by the hurricane that has raised more than $250,000, and personally raised nearly $500,000. Additionally, he worked with the Mavericks to donate 100 percent of all single-game ticket sales from their Oct. 25 game against the Memphis Grizzlies to Puerto Rico, generating an additional $114,000 for the island’s recovery. Before the Mavericks’ home game against the Boston Celtics on 11/20/17, NBA Cares Ambassador Bob Lanier presented the award to Barea during an on-court ceremony. In addition, Kaiser Permanente and the NBA donated $10,000 to the J.J. Barea Foundation. The NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente honors the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson, who improved the community piece by piece. MATTHEWS’ 3-BALL: Mavericks swingman Wesley Matthews, who has made a team-high 107 3-pointers this year (107-of-281, .381), is the only NBA player with at least 125 trifectas in each of the last seven seasons (2010-17). Matthews hit his 1,300th career 3-pointer at the 59.8-second mark of the third quarter against Oklahoma City on 11/25/17, becoming the 40th player in NBA history to reach the mark. He achieved the milestone in his 612th career game, becoming the sixth-fastest player to 1,300 made threes in league history (in terms of games played). The only players to reach 1,300 trifectas in fewer games than Matthews are: Stephen Curry (437), Klay Thompson (457), Ray Allen (586), James Harden (591) and Peja Stojakovic (609). Dallas went 22-of-39 (.564) from beyond the arc at New Orleans on 12/29/17, setting a new franchise record for 3-pointers made in a game. The team’s previous regular-season record was 19 threes, which it had tied twice in 2017-18 (prior to the New Orleans game). Prior to their 3-point barrage at New Orleans on 12/29/17, the most triples the Mavericks made in any game (regular season or postseason) was 20 in a series-clinching playoff win over the L.A. Lakers on 5/8/11 (20-of-32, .625). Before this season, Dallas had never made 19 treys in a regular-season game that was decided in regulation. The Mavericks had two streaks of at least 15 consecutive games with nine-or-more made 3-pointers this season. Dallas hit at least nine trifectas in each of its first 15 games this year (10/18-11/14/17), breaking the franchise’s previous single-season record of 12 straight games with nine-or-more 3-pointers set in 1995-96 (2/25-3/15/96). HOW THE ROSTER WAS BUILT: Dallas had another busy offseason in 2017. The Mavericks held the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, their first selection in the top 10 since 1998, and drafted explosive guard Dennis Smith Jr. out of North Carolina State. The reigning ACC Freshman of the Year immediately impressed at the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2017 in Las Vegas, averaging a team-high 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, a team-high 4.2 assists, 2.2 steals and 25.8 minutes en route to being named to the All-NBA Summer League First Team. On 7/3/17, Dallas signed former Baylor big man Johnathan Motley, the 2017 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award winner, to a two-way contract, after he went undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. On 7/6/17, Dallas re-signed 13-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, bringing back the franchise’s greatest player for his 20th season. On 7/7/17, Dallas acquired forward-center Josh McRoberts (along with a future second-round pick and cash considerations) from Miami in exchange for center A.J. Hammons. On 7/13/17, the Mavericks signed forward Maxi Kleber, who hails from Würzburg, Germany, the same hometown as Nowitzki. On 8/28/17, Dallas signed center Nerlens Noel, who was acquired by the Mavericks in a trade-deadline deal last season. On 1/10/18, the Mavericks were awarded two-way forward Jalen Jones via a waiver claim, after the Dallas native was waived by New Orleans on 1/8/18. On 1/13/18, the Mavericks signed guard Kyle Collinsworth to a 10-day contract, after the former BYU product originally signed a two-way contract with Dallas on 12/19/17 and was waived by the team on 1/10/18. The roster currently stands at 17 players. Six of the 17 are in their first season with Dallas (Collinsworth, Jones, Kleber, Motley, McRoberts, Smith). Two of the 17 were members of the Mavericks’ 2011 NBA championship team (Nowitzki and Barea). Overall, Dallas has three players with NBA championship experience (Nowitzki, Barea and Barnes). Harris was also with the Mavericks when they reached the NBA Finals in 2006. The roster also features five

players born outside of one of the 50 U.S. states or Washington, D.C.: Barea (Puerto Rico), Nowitzki and Kleber (Germany), Salah Mejri (Tunisia), and Dwight Powell (Canada). 2016-17 SEASON RECAP: The Mavericks finished 33-49 (.402) in 2016-17, snapping a streak of 16 straight seasons with at least a .500 record. Health played a big part, with injuries costing the team 163 “man games lost” on the year. Eleven undrafted players appeared in at least one game for Dallas in 2016-17 – the most in any one season in franchise history. The team even started four undrafted players (Dorian Finney-Smith, Wesley Matthews, Seth Curry and Salah Mejri) in a game for the first time ever against San Antonio on 11/21/16. Dirk Nowitzki achieved yet another huge milestone in 2016-17, becoming the sixth player in NBA history and the first international player to reach the 30,000-point plateau against the L.A. Lakers on 3/7/17. Rick Carlisle also became the first coach in Mavericks history to reach 400 wins with the franchise with a 108-104 victory at Portland on 2/3/17. Harrison Barnes enjoyed a breakout season in his first year with the Mavericks, averaging a career-high (team-high) 19.2 points per game. WITH THE NO. 9 PICK, THE DALLAS MAVERICKS SELECT …: The Dallas Mavericks selected Dennis Smith Jr. with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old out of NC State was Dallas’ first selection in the top 10 since drafting Robert Traylor with the sixth pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, then trading his rights to the Milwaukee Bucks for the rights to Dirk Nowitzki, the ninth pick. The explosive point guard averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.94 steals for the Wolfpack last year en route to earning ACC Freshman of the Year and All-AAC Second Team honors. He led the league in assists (ranked 13th nationally) and finished sixth in the conference in scoring. Smith also registered an NC State freshman-record with 62 steals in 2016-17. At the 2017 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Smith averaged a team-high 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, a team-high 4.2 assists, 2.2 steals and 25.8 minutes in six games (all starts) for a Dallas squad that finished 5-1. In addition to acquiring Nowitzki, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, with the ninth pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, Dallas also used the ninth pick in 1981 to draft Rolando Blackman, who stood as the team’s all-time leading scorer until Nowitzki surpassed him in 2008. The Mavericks are hoping the ninth pick in 2017 produces yet another all-time great player for the franchise. BACK-TO-BACKS: The Mavericks have gone 3-5 in the first half of back-to-backs and 3-5 in the second half of back-to-backs this year. They have swept two back-to-backs (each of their last two), split two and been swept in four. The Mavericks have 15 back-to-backs this season, 11 of which will come prior to the All-Star Break, and two of which will require no travel (home-and-home). Along with the two home-and-home back-to-backs, Dallas will play nine back-to-backs that begin at home and conclude on the road, and four back-to-backs that begin and end on the road. Dallas will not play any road-to-home back-to-backs this season. The Mavericks went 7-8 in the first half of back-to-backs and 3-12 in the second half of back-to-backs last season. They swept one back-to-back, split eight, and were swept in six last year.

HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE: The 2017-18 campaign marks the 38th season in the history of the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas has won three division titles (1987, 2007, 2010) and appeared in the postseason 21 times (including 15 times in a 16-year span from 2001 to 2016). The Mavericks have made four Western Conference Finals appearances (1988, 2003, 2006, 2011) and advanced to the NBA Finals twice (2006 and 2011). In 2011, Dallas defeated Miami in six games to capture its first NBA championship in franchise history.

THE NEW TWO-WAY CONTRACTS: The 2017-18 season will mark the first year NBA two-way contracts will be implemented. NBA teams are allowed to have up to two players under two-way contracts who will spend the bulk of the season in the NBA G League and not more than 45 days with their NBA team. Two-way players are paid a corresponding daily amount based on the number of days they play in each league. Only players with four-or-fewer years of NBA experience are able to sign two-way contracts, which can be for either one or two seasons. The Mavericks’ G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends, play their home games in Frisco, Texas. Johnathan Motley and Jalen Jones are the two-way players currently on the Mavericks’ roster. Motley (6-10, 230) went undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft after three seasons at Baylor (2014-17). As a junior, he averaged 17.3 points, 9.9 rebounds,

2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks per game en route to being named Baylor’s first-ever consensus All-American, taking home second-team honors. Motley was also selected as the 2017 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year, becoming first Baylor player to win a major individual award. Jones (6-7, 220) was claimed off waivers by the Mavericks on 1/10/18, after the rookie forward was waived by the Pelicans on 1/8/18 after appearing in four NBA games. After going undrafted in 2016 out of Texas A&M, Jones spent the 2016-17 season with the G League’s Maine Red Claws. In 46 games (all starts) for the Red Claws, he averaged 21.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steal and 36.0 minutes per game en route to earning NBA G League Third Team honors and being named to the 2017 G League All-Star Team. A native of Dallas, Jones began his college career at SMU before transferring to Texas A&M after his sophomore season. Jones was named to the All-SEC Second Team by the coaches as a junior and the All-SEC First Team by the coaches during his senior campaign. As a senior in 2015-16, he averaged 15.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 27.3 minutes per game in 33 games (28 starts) while helping the Aggies reach the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen. Rick Carlisle is in his 10th season as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. He is the third-longest tenured head coach in the league behind San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich (hired in December 1996) and Miami’s Erick Spoelstra (April 2008). Carlisle recorded his 700th career win with Dallas’ 108-82 victory over the L.A. Clippers on Dec. 2, 2017, becoming the 18th coach in NBA history to reach the milestone. He joined the Spurs’ Gregg Popovich and the Clippers’ Doc Rivers as the only active coaches with 700 victories. Carlisle, who was named the ninth head coach in Mavericks history on May 9, 2008, became the winningest head coach in team history with Dallas’ 103-93 victory at the L.A. Lakers on Nov. 1, 2015, passing Don Nelson (339) with his 340th win with the franchise. Carlisle became the first coach in Mavericks history to reach 400 wins with the franchise with Dallas’ 108-104 victory at Portland on Feb. 3, 2017. Carlisle led his team to the playoffs 12 times in his first 14 seasons as a head coach. He guided the Mavericks to their first-ever world championship in 2011, while posting an impressive 16-5 mark during the 2011 postseason. Carlisle, who won a title as a player with Boston in 1986, is one of only 14 individuals to win an NBA championship as both a player and a head coach. . Dallas reached the postseason in seven of Carlisle’s first eight seasons at the helm. He joined the Mavericks after spending six seasons, with Detroit and Indiana, as a head coach. Carlisle served as an ESPN studio analyst during the 2007-08 NBA season before coming to Dallas. Carlisle began his head coaching career with Detroit. During his two-season tenure, the Pistons won 61 percent (100-64) of their games to go along with two Central Division championships and one trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. Following his first season as head coach in 2002, Carlisle earned the NBA’s Coach of the Year award. On Sept. 2, 2003, Carlisle joined Indiana as head coach. In his first year, Carlisle led the Pacers to the NBA’s best record (61-21), the most victories in franchise history, the best winning percentage in team history (.744) and a Central Division championship. He also led the Pacers to the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals where they eventually lost to the Pistons.

Carlisle, including his previous two seasons with Detroit, became the first coach since Pat Riley to win 50 games and division championships in each of his first three seasons as a head coach. Overall, Carlisle earned a 181-147 (.552) regular season record in Indiana and led the team to three consecutive postseason appearances before stepping down following the 2006-07 campaign. Carlisle began his coaching career in 1989 as an assistant with the New Jersey Nets. In five seasons with the Nets, he had the opportunity to work under Hall of Fame coaching legends Bill Fitch and Chuck Daly. Carlisle then moved on to Portland, where he spent three seasons as an assistant under P.J. Carlesimo before joining former teammate Larry Bird’s staff in Indiana during the summer of 1997. In 1984, Carlisle began his NBA career as the only rookie to make the Boston Celtics roster. He spent three seasons in Boston and enjoyed his best year as a pro when he averaged 9.9 minutes in 77 games for the 1986 world champions. He then played one year with the New York Knicks under head coach Rick Pitino before moving on to New Jersey, where he played briefly for Fitch before being offered an assistant coaching position with the franchise. Collegiately, Carlisle played two years at the University of Maine before transferring to the University of Virginia, where he was co-captain of the Cavaliers’ 1984 Final Four team. A native of Ogdensburg, N.Y., he graduated in 1984 with a B.A. in psychology from Virginia.
