Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is an economic engine for the region, generating $37 billion in economic impact annually. Built in 1974 and situated between Dallas and Fort Worth, it is the highest-capacity commercial airport in the world and one of two international gateway airports in Texas. As a major hub of Fort Worth–based American Airlines, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport offers business travelers a high-frequency schedule and access to any major city in the continental United States in less than four hours. Cargo operations, which amounted to 984,850 metric tons in 2019, serve 38 major markets around the world, including several key markets in Asia. DFW Airport recently completed upgrades to its original terminals with a $2.7 billion ‘Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program’ (TRIP) and currently hosts 164 gates flying to 260 destinations. In 2020, DFW will begin construction of Terminal F which will add capacity for up to 24 additional gates. Located just seven miles from downtown Dallas, Love Field is a convenient general- use airport that serves as the headquarters for low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines. The airport, which served more than 16.8 million passengers in 2019, underwent a $519 million modernization renovation, including a centralized terminal with 20 gates, a new lobby, and an expanded baggage claim area.
