CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I Name: The name of this association shall be the Associated Women for Harding.

ARTICLE II Purposes: (1) To support Harding College in all her needs . (2) To help promote the highest advantages in physical, s ocial, intellectual and spirit ual educa­tion for every s tudent of Harding College. • (3) To promo t e a clear underst anding of Chris tian education . (4) To fos t er a spirit of friendship among the women who are interested in the development of Christian education.

ARTICLE III Policies: (1) This asso.ciation shall be non-commercial and non-partisan. No commercial enterprise and no candidate shall be endorsed by it. (2) All dues collected shall be deposited with the general fund of the college for its use and are not to be used to defray expenses for projects, programs or for any other reason. (3) As initial organization and because of its location, the Searcy chapter shall serve as adviser for other similar groups organized.

ARTICLE IV Membership and dues: Section 1. Any woman interested in the purposes of the Associated Women for Harding and willing to uphold its policies and subscribe to its bylaws may become a regular, junior, life or patron member upon payment of dues. · Section 2. (a) Dues for regular members ~Jill be $12.00 per year, payable annually or monthly. (b) Dues for a junior member (student or a student's wife) shall be $1.00 per year, payable annually. (c) Life membership shall be conferred upon any member or approved applicant upon re­ceipt of her contribution of $100.00 within a 12-month period. (d) Patron life member-

ship shall be conferred upon any member or approved applicant upon receipt of her contribution of $500.00 or more. (e) The Executive Committee may confer by unan­imous vote honorary membership upon any woman who has rendered outstanding and distinguished service to Christian educa­tion. (f) Annual membership shall termr !nate automatically when contributions are delinquent for a period of six months or upon request of the member. (g) Any member in good standing shall be priv­ileged to vote and hold office.

ARTICLE V Officers and their Election: Section 1. (a) The officers of this association shall be a president, 1st vice-president, 2nd vice-president, 3rd vice-president, secretary, treasurer, reporter and histo­rian. (b) Officers shall be elected annu ally in the month of April. (c) Officers shall assume their official duties at the close of the May meeting and shall serve for a term of one year and/or until their successors are elected. (d) No person shall serve more than two (2) consecut~ve terms in the same office. Section 2. (a) There shall be a nominating committee consisting of five (5) members, one of whom shall be elected by the executive committee from its body, and four (4) elected by the association at a meeting at least one month prior to the election. The president shall appoint one of the five to serve as chairman of the co~ mittee. (b) The nominating committee shall elect one (1) nominee for each office to be filled and report at the regular meeting in April. (c) Following the report of the nominating committee, an opportunity shall be given for nom­inations from the floor. (d) Only those who have consented to serve if elected shall be eligible for nomination, either by the committee or from the floor. Section 3. A vacancy occurring in an office shall be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the ex­ecutive committee, due notice of such

ARTICLE X Obligations: All members within the association shall commit themselves to the support of the policies and program adopted, both through payment of dues and through participation in the ac­tivities of the association.

ARTICLE XI Parliamentary Authority: Roberts Rules of Order Revised shall govern this association in all instances in which they are not inconsistent with the con­stitution and in which they are appli­cable.

ARTICLE XII Amendments: (a) These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the associatiOn by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the me~ers present and voting, pro­vided notice of the proposed amendment shall have been given at the previous meeting. (b) A committee may be-appointed to submit a revised set of bylaws as a substitute for these only by a majority vote at a meeting of the association or by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the execu­tive committee.

Harding College is a four-year Christian institution of arts and sciences. Controlled by a Board of Trustees who are members of the church of Christ, the college stresses development of each individual student .. Seeking not only the intellectual growth of the students, the faculty and administration also seek to aid each student to develop spiritually, socially and physically. The college offers degrees in 63 major fields and a master's degree program in education. Harding seeks to aid the· student to grow spirituafly through a daily chapel period and participation in a Bible course each sem.ester. The coUege exists to help the student in building a philosophy of life that is consistent with Christian ideals.

Located on 200 acres in Searcy, Arkansas, a city of 12.000 population, the modem physical plant consists of 43 buildings and is valued at $25 million.
