Brief synopsis of RIM Unit goals…

To promote interest, and to enable knowledge acquisition and skill development, in health research throughout all four undergraduate years

To establish and foster supportive, one-on-one mentoring relationships between Dalhousie University health researchers and medial learners

To lay the theoretical and practical groundwork for potential actualization of a learner’s choice to make health research an integral and stimulating component of her/his medical career

RIM Unit progress-to-dateBrief historical notes…

Implementation of RIM Program in September of 2013/14 academic year with Class of 2017

Yes, there were ‘growing pains’ and some developmental ‘storming’ influenced by such factors as: Rapid program implementation Class of 2017 learner resistance to introduction to an additional program with

academic requirements (and perceived, related loss of a Med I fall elective experience)

Class of 2018 learner resistance to introduction of the RIM examination

With the Dean Marrie’s assent, there was an intentional shift to a longitudinal unit and a lateral governance structure in Spring 2014

Continued progression toward optimal integration with other medical school curricular components in 2015/16
