The Castle has had many distinguished visitors. Edward 1 stayed here beforedefeating William Wallace at the battle of Falkirk, Henry IV unsuccessfullybesieged it for six months and Oliver Cromwell captured the castle in 1648.

Queen Victoria took tea in the Castle in 1840.

Descend the stone stairway into the atmospheric Dungeon Restaurantwith its rough hewn stone work. Alternatively, with its sweeping views

over the south Esk River, the Orangery offers a more informal diningexperience. Private dining is available in both the Orangery and the
