Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 4: Daughters of Panun Kashmir organized a tradi- tional function in connection with the observance of Vitasta Divas, the birth day of river Vitasta (Jehlum) with fervour, here today. Kashmiri Pandits revere it as an incarnation of Mata Parvati. Daughters of Panun Kashmir, the women wing of PK has been observing this day for the last 26 years on the Ranbir canal which is a tributary of River Chanderbhaga (Chenab). It is on the banks of river Vitasta that the prestine civilization of Kashmir flourished for the last thousands of years. The programme was presided over by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir, while Swami Kumar Ji was the chief guest on the occa- sion. HN Jattu, senior leader of the KP community was the special guest on the occasion, while Vimla Chrungoo, Secretary, DOPK, and its senior members Sunita Raina, Nirmala Raina, Vijay Saproo and Sarojini Kaul were the main activists in the pro- gramme. An 'Aarti' was observed with flower petals and the lighting earthen lamps were immersed in the Ranbir canal with full devotion and fervour creating a magnetic effect all around. HN Jattu while speaking on the occasion said that the success of the Kashmiri Pandits as a socio- cultural group is due to the unique way of observing its festivals and customs. Swami Kumar Ji spoke on the religio-cultural significance of river Vitasta. He explained as to how the unique Sharda culture evolved on the banks of Mata Vitasta and exhorted the KP com- munity to remain rooted to the tra- ditions and religious tenets in order to survive the onslaught of different influences. Virender Raina spoke about the importance of the campaign launched by Panun Kashmir in regard to the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A. Chrungoo in his presentation gave a brief of what the Kashmir did for the last six months. He said, the narrative of the nation regarding the Kashmir imbroglio has started changing with the efforts of Panun Kashmir. The community youth led by Sameer Bhat, Kalhan Kachroo, Ruskin Bhat, Akshay Pandita, Ankur Raina and Vineed Sikal administered the oath to the audi- ence to keep the struggle of Homeland alive and vibrant. Earlier, Vimla Chrungoo pre- sented the welcome address, while the proceedings of the pro- gramme were conducted by Upinder Kaul, General Secretary, Panun Kashmir. Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 4: Three cases of swine flu have been reported so far this year in Jammu region and out of them, one died few days ago here at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. A 43-year-old woman has become the first victim of swine flu in Jammu, a health official said, adding, the woman identified as Asha Rani, wife of Ashok Kumar, resident of Pounichak (Jammu), who was also a diabetics patient, was admitted in GMCH Jammu with swine flu symptoms. He said that few days ago, the woman died in the hospital. “When her samples were test- ed, she was found to be positive for H1N1 virus”, Other two cases are of Udhampur. Giving more details, he said earlier in April this year, a colonel of the Army and his teen-aged son was found to be positive for H1N1 virus in Udhampur district. He said both were tested for this dread- ed virus and provided success- ful treatment in Command Hospital, Udhampur. When contacted, Dr JP Singh, Epidemiologist, J&K Health Department, confirmed that one person has died due to swine flu this year while two others who were found positive for H1N1 virus were recovered fully after treatment. He said so far 41 samples have been tested for H1N1 virus and out of these 38 have been found negative and three (one from Jammu and two from Udhampur) were found to be positive. He said out of these three, one who belongs to Jammu, succumbed to the dis- ease before she was diagnosed. However, he said there was nothing to panic and those who were suffering from cough, cold, soar throat and high fever should consult the doctor and get the preventive treatment. “The Health Department has made all arrangements to meet any challenge of Swing Flu. Separate isolation wards have been set up in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu and SMGS Hospital, besides district hospitals for treatment of swine flu patients”, he said adding ade- quate medicines have also been stocked. He said though testing facil- ity for swine flu is available in Biochemistry lab of GMCH Jammu, yet the department is also in the process of tying up with Lal Path Lab and Ranbaxy Lab to conduct tests for H1N1 virus, as many patients prefer to conduct tests in private labs. On a question, Dr Singh said that there is some shortage of preventive vaccines, which is given to health employees dealing with swine flu/suspect- ed swine flu patients but we are procuring the same and till the end of this month, the process of procurement will be com- pleted. Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 4: PHE Employees Association (PHE- EA) of both Udhampur and Reasi districts today held a protest here at PHE Complex, wherein the speakers highlighted various demands including release of their pending wages. Addressing the protesters, vice-president, PHEEA, Jammu province, Som Nath, highlighted various demands of the Association including meeting shortage of staff in the depart- ment, holding DPC meeting as early as possible, change of des- ignation of workers as per nature of working and enhancement of daily wages from Rs 150 to Rs 350. Addressing the workers, Som Nath urged the Government for early release of wages of PHE workers, which are pending for last 40-42 months. He also urged the Government to give priority to regularization of daily wagers instead of making direct recruit- ment. The speakers also demanded the Government to revise the sanctioned strength of the PHE Department, which they alleged has not been revised since cre- ation of divisions since 40-50 years back. Besides, they demanded creation of new posts in the department and classifica- tion of workers in only two cate- gories- regular employees and permanent daily wagers. The speakers also appealed the employees of Jammu province to remain united for their cause and protect them- selves from self styled leaders. Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 4: Ek Sath Rang Mandal (ESRM) today pre- sented its 263rd nukkad "Maya Jaal" in its Monday Theatre series at Floriculture Park, BC Road, Jammu. The nukkad opens with entry of a fake saint in a small town with his two associates for befooling the people. The saint is a juggler and a trickster. He manipulates and creates a scene for establishing his goodwill among the people. All of a sudden, a person fells unconscious on a road. People gather and the man accompany- ing him cries for help for taking him to hospital, but in the mean time a Baba appears and stops them from taking him to hospital. He asks them to get a candle, claiming that he will cure him just now. A candle is brought and lit and after reciting some mantras by Baba Ji, the person regains his conscious. Seeing this, people around him influenced by his treatment and ask him numerous questions for their problems and treatments. Soon, Baba ji becomes famous as "Mombati wala Baba". He treats every patient with can- dles. Now Baba ji is getting pock- ets of candle and money as well. A social worker questions this blind faith of the people in the Baba and decides to expose him and catch him red handed. With the help of police, the social worker locates the living place of Baba, where he is found enjoying with his associates. Baba confess- es that he is a cheat and befools people who are easily trapped. Minor dies of food poisoning, 7 hospitalized Excelsior Correspondent RAMBAN, Sept 4: A seven -year-old girl died due to sus- pected food poisoning in Batote area of the district. As per police sources, eight people of Gami Bhati area of village Champa in tehsil Batote were rushed to the CHC Batote last night when they com- plained of stomach ache and vomiting after attending a func- tion in the house of Charan Dass. A seven-year-old girl name- ly Pravli Devi, daughter of Desraj died enroute to the hos- pital, while out of seven, two have been shifted to the Government Medical College hospital, Jammu, he said. The persons under treatment have been identified as Ashok Kumar (24), son of Prem Nath, Rajnder Kumar (16), son of Charan Dass, Santosh Devi (26), daughter of Shankar Dass, Sapna Devi (23), wife of Ramesh Kumar, Om Parkash (30), son of Shankar Dass, Kartaru Devi (50), wife of Shankar Dass and Kashish Devi (12), daughter of Desraj. Batote police has taken cog- nizance in this regard. Excelsior Correspondent NEW DELHI, Sept 4: A national level meet of the Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) Displaced Persons Forum was held here. During this one day conven- tion of the Forum, attended by a large number of leaders and schol- ars of the community from across the country, the participants called upon the Government to ensure justice to all those 5300 families of the PoJK, who had migrated to India and settled in various parts of the country. On this occasion, BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta was the chief guest. He strongly favoured various demands of the families of all those 5300 PoJK displaced persons settled in vari- ous parts of the country. He said that considering the condition of these families and the sacrifices made by them for the sake of nation, it is very important that equal treatment must be given to these refugees. He informed that as per the 1962 census, these families were included in the list of refugees pre- pared by the Government and were also given relief. "Now, these people are not given any other relief due to the reason that these people are not settled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir and have moved and settled in various other parts of the country," he added and termed this situation very unfortu- nate. "Besides giving the State subject to these people, they also deserve all the compensation being given to the other refugees in Jammu & Kashmir," he stressed and called-upon the Government to include all these 5300 families of displaced persons living outside J&K under the compensation package. The convention was also addressed by Retd Justice V B Gupta, who laid stress on granting permanent residence certificate to all the members of families of PoJK refugees, settled outside J&K. "This will end the long injustice being done to these per- sons who had massive properties in PoJK," he added. The concluding session of this one-day convention of the Forum was addressed by Retd. Justice Anil Dev Singh, who called-upon the Government to immediately implement the 183rd Parliamentary Committee Report. Prominent among others, who were present on the occasion, included Mahinder Mehta, Sudesh Rattan, Ashutosh and Vinay Kant. Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 4: Coping up with the requirements of needy youth, BJP State President and MLA Sat Sharma launched the construction work of much await- ed boys hostel at Guru Nabha Dass Community Hall at Dogra Hall area of Ward Number 8. Accompanied by a large number of officials, Sharma start- ed the works in the presence of officials of JMC, local residents, members of Guru Nabha Dass Trust and political activists of the area. The works will be taken up under the supervision of JMC at an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakh and the amount for the same has been contributed by MLA through his Constituency Development Fund. The camp was launched on September 1. During the camp, students of class 1st to 10th par- ticipated in the mandatory assessment tests. Besides, selec- tion test for new students from classes 1st to 3rd were also con- ducted for next year. On the fourth day, today, the chief guests were SK Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu and Dr Ruveda Salam, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu. Sat launches construction work of boys hostel 3 swine flu cases reported in Jammu Hospital staff suspends work after clash with attendants Excelsior Correspondent REASI, Sept 4: Patients at District Hospital Reasi had to suffer as the medical staff went on flash strike following alleged assault on their colleague by attendant of a victim of hair chopping case, here today. The trouble erupted this morning when a victim of hair chopping incident was brought to the hospital and a big number of her family members and relatives also forced their entry into the ward, where she was admitted. As the hospital staff asked all the attendants, except one of them, to leave the ward, the latter entered into verbal dual with the former. Soon the verbal dual turned into heated exchange of words and allegations of thrashing by each other and consequent sus- pension of work by the medical staff. On the other hand, attendants of the victim also held separate protest alleging that they were thrashed by the Medical staff. Later, SHO Reasi and Tehsildar Reasi personally reached the spot and pacified the situation after which the Medical staff returned to their duties. However, no case was registered in this connection against any one. Elderly man hit by vehicle, dies; people protest Excelsior Correspondent SURANKOTE, Sept 4: The villagers from Faizlabad today held protest and blocked road after an elderly villager was killed in a road accident on Jammu-Poonch highway. The deceased was identified as 75-year-old Khadam Hussain, son of Bader Din, res- ident of Faizlabad in district Poonch. The locals said that an unknown vehicle hit the villager when he was crossing road and the driver escaped from the spot after leaving behind the victim on the road. He was rushed to Surankote hospital where he was declared as dead. The body was kept lying there for long and no initiative was taken by health staff for postmortem. The villagers started protest near hospital and blocked road. They alleged that no doctor was available for the postmortem. They also demanded seizure of the vehicle and arrest of its driver. Later, the police traced the Tata Sumo vehicle and seized it. Tehsildar Surankote and SHO arrived there and assured action in this regard. Then the people lifted dharna. 2 injured in accident Excelsior Correspondent DODA, Sept 4: Two persons were injured, when the Tata Sumo they were travelling in, met with accident at Kahara Tanta area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandoh police station. As per police sources, a Tata Sumo bearing registration num- ber JK02AK-2937 met with accident at Kahara Tanta, result- ing into injuries to two persons. The injured identified as Akthar Hussain, son of Ghulam Rasool of Batogra and Abdul Rashid, son of Abdul Wani of Tanta were shifted to Kahara hospital, from where they were later referred to District Hospital Doda for advanced treatment. JAMMU, Sept 4: PHEEmployees Association (PHE-EA) of both Udhampur andReasi districts today held aprotest here at PHE Complex,wherein the speakers highlightedvarious demands includingrelease of their pending wages.

Addressing the protesters,vice-president, PHEEA, Jammuprovince, Som Nath, highlightedvarious demands of theAssociation including meetingshortage of staff in the depart-ment, holding DPC meeting asearly as possible, change of des-ignation of workers as per natureof working and enhancement ofdaily wages from Rs 150 to Rs350.

Addressing the workers, SomNath urged the Government for

early release of wages of PHEworkers, which are pending forlast 40-42 months. He also urgedthe Government to give priorityto regularization of daily wagersinstead of making direct recruit-ment.

The speakers also demandedthe Government to revise thesanctioned strength of the PHEDepartment, which they allegedhas not been revised since cre-ation of divisions since 40-50years back. Besides, theydemanded creation of new postsin the department and classifica-tion of workers in only two cate-gories- regular employees andpermanent daily wagers.

The speakers also appealedthe employees of Jammuprovince to remain united fortheir cause and protect them-selves from self styled leaders.

A seven-year-old girl name-ly Pravli Devi, daughter ofDesraj died enroute to the hos-pital, while out of seven, twohave been shifted to theGovernment Medical Collegehospital, Jammu, he said.

NEW DELHI, Sept 4: Anational level meet of the Pakistanoccupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK)Displaced Persons Forum washeld here.

During this one day conven-tion of the Forum, attended by alarge number of leaders and schol-ars of the community from acrossthe country, the participants calledupon the Government to ensurejustice to all those 5300 families ofthe PoJK, who had migrated toIndia and settled in various partsof the country.

On this occasion, BJP seniorleader and MLC Vibodh Guptawas the chief guest. He stronglyfavoured various demands of thefamilies of all those 5300 PoJKdisplaced persons settled in vari-ous parts of the country. He saidthat considering the condition ofthese families and the sacrificesmade by them for the sake ofnation, it is very important thatequal treatment must be given tothese refugees.

He informed that as per the1962 census, these families wereincluded in the list of refugees pre-pared by the Government andwere also given relief. "Now, thesepeople are not given any otherrelief due to the reason that these

people are not settled in the Stateof Jammu & Kashmir and havemoved and settled in various otherparts of the country," he added andtermed this situation very unfortu-nate. "Besides giving the Statesubject to these people, they alsodeserve all the compensationbeing given to the other refugeesin Jammu & Kashmir," he stressedand called-upon the Governmentto include all these 5300 familiesof displaced persons living outsideJ&K under the compensationpackage.

The convention was alsoaddressed by Retd Justice V BGupta, who laid stress on grantingpermanent residence certificate toall the members of families ofPoJK refugees, settled outsideJ&K. "This will end the longinjustice being done to these per-sons who had massive propertiesin PoJK," he added.

The concluding session of thisone-day convention of the Forumwas addressed by Retd. JusticeAnil Dev Singh, who called-uponthe Government to immediatelyimplement the 183rdParliamentary Committee Report.

The trouble erupted thismorning when a victim of hairchopping incident was brought tothe hospital and a big number ofher family members and relativesalso forced their entry into theward, where she was admitted.As the hospital staff asked all theattendants, except one of them,to leave the ward, the latterentered into verbal dual with theformer.

Soon the verbal dual turnedinto heated exchange of wordsand allegations of thrashing byeach other and consequent sus-pension of work by the medicalstaff.

On the other hand, attendantsof the victim also held separateprotest alleging that they werethrashed by the Medical staff.

Later, SHO Reasi andTehsildar Reasi personallyreached the spot and pacified thesituation after which the Medicalstaff returned to their duties.However, no case was registeredin this connection against anyone.

Elderly man hit by vehicle,dies; people protest

SURANKOTE, Sept 4: Thevillagers from Faizlabad todayheld protest and blocked roadafter an elderly villager waskilled in a road accident onJammu-Poonch highway.

The deceased was identifiedas 75-year-old KhadamHussain, son of Bader Din, res-ident of Faizlabad in districtPoonch. The locals said that anunknown vehicle hit the villagerwhen he was crossing road andthe driver escaped from the spotafter leaving behind the victimon the road. He was rushed toSurankote hospital where hewas declared as dead. The bodywas kept lying there for longand no initiative was taken byhealth staff for postmortem.

The villagers started protestnear hospital and blocked road.They alleged that no doctor wasavailable for the postmortem.They also demanded seizure ofthe vehicle and arrest of itsdriver. Later, the police tracedthe Tata Sumo vehicle andseized it. Tehsildar Surankoteand SHO arrived there andassured action in this regard.Then the people lifted dharna.

As per police sources, a TataSumo bearing registration num-ber JK02AK-2937 met withaccident at Kahara Tanta, result-ing into injuries to two persons.

The injured identified asAkthar Hussain, son of GhulamRasool of Batogra and AbdulRashid, son of Abdul Wani ofTanta were shifted to Kaharahospital, from where they werelater referred to District HospitalDoda for advanced treatment.

A case in this regard has beenregistered at Gandoh police sta-tion and investigation started.
