While speaking during a party convention, which was presided over by district president, Sunil Verma, block president, Chenani, Surinder Sharma, highlighted the burning problems of the villages of the area like shortage of drinking water, non-availability of ration in ration depots, non-completion of PMGSY roads, shortage of staff in schools, PHCs and dispensaries and non-payment of salaries to MGNREGA workers. SRTC responsible for killing of 17 Amarnath pilgrims: Ram Sena Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, July 17: Expres- sing serious concern over the accident at Ramban in which 17 Amarnath pilgrims were killed and over 30 injured, State president, Shri Ram Sena, (SRS) Jammu and Kashmir, Rajiv Mahajan asked State Government espe- cially Governor, who is also chairman Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, (SASB) to take strict action against the big- wigs of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) who are responsible of this mishap. "Officials of JKSRTC, who deployed old buses for boarding of Shri Amarnath pilgrims, are responsible for this mishap that claimed the lives of 17 Amarnath pil- grims, who were travelling in a vehicle owned by the Corporation," said Mahajan in a statement issued here today. "Poor condition of JKSRTC buses is not only causing considerable incon- venience to pilgrims but also creating a bad impression in the country," he added. He said that Jammu and Kashmir, being a popular tourist destination, should have better JKSRTC bus serv- ice on the lines of other States. He said only constitution of Inquiry Committee to look into the circumstances that led to this tragic accident involving an SRTC bus carry- ing the Amarnath Yatris by Government is not enough and sought immediate action against JKSRTC officials. "On specific information, a police team of police station Bhaderwah led by SHO, Inspector Jitender Singh Sambyal, laid a naka at new Bus Stand Bhaderwah and apprehended one person namely Omkar Bhagat alias Latto son of Dummi, resident of Dosapani (Bhaderwah) carrying 38 nips of illicit liquor", a police spokesman said. The residents alleged that there was acute scarcity of drinking water while power supply was also erraticin and demanded that both the services should be restored at an earliest. Raising slogans against the Government the residents warned to start indefinite agitation against the ERA, PHE and PDD.
