Daily English Sessions - Theme - ‘The Dream Giver’

1 20 minutes reading for pleasure. Either reading own book or ActiveLearn Bug Club book.

The Dream Giver Silently, a group of orphans sleep in an orphanage. Quietly, the window shutters open and in crawls a mysterious creature.

He doesn't look too friendly at first but we soon see what his plan is. This is the Dream Giver and by cracking his dream eggs he makes sure the childrens' nights are pleasurable. He creates the dreams by cracking the eggs

onto stories, posters and ballet shoes. But what will happen if an egg is accidentally spilt on something not so nice?

The BFG Sophie, an orphan in London, lies wide awake early one morning, afraid of the witching hour. Out of the blue, she sees a giant from the window of her orphanage

blowing good dreams into the windows of children. Suddenly, the giant snatches Sophie and takes her to the distant Giant Country. The BFG and Sophie soon become great friends and Sophie learns of his job as a dream catcher. Together, they travel to Dream Country where they capture dreams in a butterfly net,

transfer them to jars before blowing them at children to give them a pleasant night’s sleep.

Wider Curriculum Tasks

The boy turned around slowly as the colossal shadow loomed over him.

There, in front of him, stood a muscular creature. Its blood-red, protruding eyes scanned the landscape for its next kill.

Its long, brawny tail thumped the ground whilst its jagged claws tapped impatiently.

Its razor-sharp teeth shone like knives waiting to pierce the flesh of its harmless prey.
