Imagine if it was possible...

– to do the impossible. Develop the inconceivable. Or invent something brilliant. Just think if you could optimise your products. Make them more tightly sealed, increase their ability to absorb sound or vibrations or protect them better. Or imagine if it was possible to find solutions that also con-tribute to streamlining the manufacturing process, making it more competitive as well.

When thoughts also become words in dialogue with a colleague, a supplier or a business associate, the

process becomes magical. When the person you’re talking to makes the most of the op-

portunity, accepts the challenge and plays along. Development is based on dialogue between professionals – for seeing new possibilities by virtue of one another’s knowledge, expertise and, not least, technical insight. Some would call this

creativity.

We call it innovative teamwork for finding new foam and rubber solutions for manufacturing companies.

– absorb

– because sounds, noise, vibrations, racket and jolts must be kept isolated from the surroundings. And because DAFA’s products serve as a dampen-ing material which equalises pressure, absorbs impact sounds or cushions irregularities. Convincingly effective every time.

– protect

– because DAFA’s products are bene-ficial by providing effective protection against jolts, heavy loads, momentary action, fire, static action or tangential stress. Or in other instances by dis-persing stress forces or serving as a shock-absorbing material. Protection so products and machinery do not break, or to prevent personal injury.

– seal

– because DAFA’s solutions stay sealed, closing crevices, cracks and holes. They offset variations, sealing structures, joints, transitions and gaskets making them more secure. Sealing solutions for separating, for resisting water, air, moisture, and for insulating heat from cold, noise from quietness or outdoors from indoors.

– taking leaps and bounds towards a greener future

The view from above

They show that we are taking good care of the environment. We all know that fossil fuels will soon become scarce all over the world – our current sources of energy will simply dry up.

And this is where eco-friendly wind turbines enter the picture: by accelerating sustainable development and helping to en-sure the green energy supplies of the future.

Imagine if it was possible...

We get on well with our customers

A wind turbine is much more than a tower, with a nacelle, hub and blades. Hiding behind the facade are technology and mechanical engineering and, not least, sealing solu-tions that have to hold all these things together. DAFA has been working closely with the wind turbine industry for many years, which is why we are so familiar with the sec-tor and its market players.

We focus on the industry’s strict requirements – and we know the processes from start to finish. That is also what makes us an expert business associate whenever we find the optimal solution together with our customers.

All the way round

DAFA is a member of the Danish Wind Industry Associa-tion and the MidtVind network where we work closely with other Danish suppliers of the wind turbine industry. We also collaborate closely with testing institutes in Denmark and abroad.

Joining forces with DAFA ensures that you get a combined package of sealing solutions for the whole wind turbine, including composites and transportation. Our know-how, flexibility and efficiency ensure optimal, customised solu-tions for wind turbine manufacturers all over the world.

– to make lightness and strength become one

In the open air – almost

Caravanning has its own unique charm. When summer arrives, it’s time to move the living room outdoors. This life-style makes much higher demands on decor, design and com-fort than pitching tents did in the olden days. Many caravan-ners regard their caravan as a home away from home, so they want it to look nice.

This is also true of the ceiling cladding. One of Europe’s big-gest players in the camping market, Kabe, of Sweden, was looking for a foil solution that was both light and strong.

Imagine if it was possible...

Page 7: DAFA Imagebrochure

7

Easier with lamination

DAFA has invested in a manufacturing technology which makes it possible to laminate foil onto foam. This provides the best of both worlds: noise absorption and evening out of irregularities – and a strong, easy-to-clean surface.

The combined solution is very lightweight and thus ex-tremely practical, seeing that caravans are usually hauled great distances.

Success has taken up residence

Happy caravanners are now offered high-quality ceiling cladding in several designs to choose from. And there is nothing to worry about because the laminated foil is firmly attached. It can withstand moisture from rainy summer days and steamy showers.

It provides an excellent starting point for a lasting tradi-tion – because the solution’s service life is more than 30 years.

Stringent requirements

If you have diabetes or have a higher risk of forming blood clots, you need to have blood samples taken frequently. Today, more and more patients are taking their own blood samples at home, sparing them countless check-ups at the doctor’s surgery or hospital.

A packaging company was looking for a solution that could comply with Denmark’s strict statutory requirements for ship-ments of biological material. The packaging had to have the same dimensions as an ordinary letterbox – and, for postage reasons, it should weigh 270 grams at most, including eight blood samples. In the event of an accident, the material also had to be able to absorb liquid.

Imagine if it was possible...

Page 9: DAFA Imagebrochure

9

Postman Pat can be a little rough sometimes

Being tossed around in the postal system can be hard on your products. In order to send blood samples properly, the packaging has to be capable of absorbing both im-pacts and moisture. DAFA developed a packaging solution out of Stratocell, a foam product. For the lid, DAFA chose a highly absorbent material commonly used in nappies and panty shields.

All in all, it was a light solution with optimal absorption capacity. The packaging is also eco-friendly, as it is made of biodegradable or recyclable materials. And because it can be reused over and over, it costs very little to use.

Everything is in perfect order

The customer was the first company in Denmark to have its packaging solution approved by the Danish Technologi-cal Institute in compliance with a statutory requirement in effect throughout Europe. This gave the market a trail-blazing, packaging material certified for ordinary postal transports of biological material.

The packaging is now used throughout Denmark’s Central and Northern Regions – enabling satisfied patients to save both time and money. Because they no longer have to re-port for time-consuming check-ups – or send large parcels made of other, heavier and more fragile materials.

10

– to offset the noise with comfort and radio waves

From one ear to another

The wheels are turning at many workplaces. So much so that it is sometimes necessary to wear ear protectors. Besides pro-tecting the ears, the earphones must be comfortable to wear, which is why the band across the head is usually made of a soft material.

An ear-protector manufacturer had worked closely with a foam supplier for many years, until the supply stopped be-cause the rights to the foam had been resold.

Imagine if it was possible...

Page 11: DAFA Imagebrochure

11

”What shall we do now?”

It may sound simple, but the welding of foil and foam into a composite product is not straightforward. DAFA was called in as an expert, and the search was on for a re-placement foam with the same frequency range as the ear protector covering.

It became a process which involved a meticulous review of the foam formula, because an open-celled foam product had to be processed to soften the weld.

On the same wavelength

The welding process must create a vacuum, which is only possible by pressing the foam completely flat. This requires the use of a soft foam which, when cut, swells again to make the earphone band soft and comfort-able.

The solution also had to allow space for wires so the em-ployees could take the radio with them on the job.

Night club on wheels

You are in no doubt when you hear it. Dynaudio makes exclusive, world-class loudspeakers. Now the automotive industry had also pricked up its ears, which posed a number of challenges to Dynaudio, thus affecting the company’s external suppliers – including DAFA.

The automotive industry stipulates a wide variety of require-ments for the quality and uniformity of its products.

Imagine if it was possible...

Turning up the future

Preparing product-quality control tools like PPAP and FMEA prevents potential sources of faults. This is because structured risk analyses help to ensure that the customer’s constructional drawings and specification of requirements are followed all the way through the process.

The design and development phase is thoroughly checked and everything relating to manufacture and delivery is scrutinised down to the last detail. The process is visu-alised to provide breadth of view, while the capability is charted in minute detail. In so doing, all data and informa-tion provide an ongoing true picture of the actual produc-tion process.

For ideal collaboration

FMEA, PPAP, 8D reports – it all sounds complicated, and it is, too, but once you get control of the details, you will have maximised the outcome. DAFA has prepared and im-plemented analysis tools which help to ensure compliance with end-user requirements. Strong teamwork between DAFA and Dynaudio has put DAFA into the category of suppliers with today’s lowest fault percentage by far.

The tools have now been incorporated into our existing ISO system, making DAFA ready to serve the many com-panies which are increasingly stipulating documentation requirements.

Crazy consumption

Many companies have large pumps running at top speed 24 hours a day. In many cases, the electric motor’s efforts do not correspond with actual need, and because it is working at maxi-mum capacity, valves are subsequently required to adjust the pressure. A frequency converter can often remedy this problem, and this is notably quickly reflected in the electricity bill. A frequency converter makes it possible for the motor to regulate the pressure itself.

Grundfos was faced with having to produce a new, much larger model than previously. The company was also in need of new larger-scale gaskets, but they had to be invented first – which was where DAFA entered the picture, fortunately.

Imagine if it was possible...

Page 15: DAFA Imagebrochure

15

Foil gaskets

DAFA took part in the development process to find a gasket solution for large frequency converters. As the product was to be marketed worldwide, a number of re-quirements had to be met. The material had to be able to pass IP tests, meet UL requirements, etc.

This became a journey into all sorts of nooks and cran-nies. Because not only did the big gasket have to stay tightly sealed, it also had to be easy to handle. So DAFA contacted the supplier, which resulted in a foam solution with a thin layer of foil embedded in the middle.

Sensible solution for the future

The gasket fits exactly into the large converters, because it is moulded and notably cannot give due to the stabilis-ing properties of the foil. This means that the gasket is not soft like an elastic band but hard like a piece of card-board. At the same time, the soft foam effect is preserved horizontally to make the gasket serve its purpose to per-fection. Companies can also save a lot of money by having large frequency converters, because they can control the use of energy as required.

Which is smart.

Imagine if it was possible...

Never add insult to injury

Coop Danmark is the umbrella organisation for some of the largest supermarket chains, making Coop the largest retail enterprise in Denmark with some 35,000 employees, many of whom are employed in the large department stores’ electronics departments.

Coop has its electronics equipment repaired by external ser-vice companies, and transporting flat screens can be a delicate affair. To ensure that the products are not further damaged in transit, Coop sought a simple, reliable packaging solution.

Page 17: DAFA Imagebrochure

17

Thick foam for flat screens

DAFA developed a universal packaging solution for Coop’s electronics departments for transporting their flat screens back and forth for repair. The solution fits the standard di-mensions for cardboard packaging and is made up of four corners of a shock-absorbent foam material. The corners fit all flat-panel displays from 14” all the way up to 47”.

The tear-resistant skin surface of the foam material is what makes this solution universal. The tear-resistance makes it possible to cut into the material without cutting all the way through. The corners have several water-jet-cut rings, so Coop’s employees can decide how many holes – or how much filling – should be removed, depending on the pro-duct model and dimensions.

Security back and forth in transit

The solution has helped to minimise the risk of damaging flat screens in transit, because the foam corners provide maximum protection by absorbing impacts and repelling water and moisture. Another advantage of the foam over other materials is that it does not disintegrate or crack, but retains its shape – even over a long period of time.

Thanks to this universal model, COOP employees in the electronics departments avoid having to manage several different packaging solutions, saving them both time and storage space. In addition to the flat-screen corners, DAFA was also asked to provide universal packaging for DVDs, hard disks, and computers.

Trusting teamworkTeaming up with DAFA involves open-ness from the outset. The dialogue is direct, informal and accommodating – but most of all forward-looking and solution-oriented.

This applies to the first meeting agreements for ongoing communica-tion once the teamwork becomes a reality. Providing the foundation for a trusting, rewarding working relation-ship that benefits both parties.

Always on time We live in a world where time is a decisive factor in every context and process. In our customer relation-ships and partnerships, we are natu-rally required to meet deadlines and delivery times ALL THE TIME.

Therefore, DAFA endeavours to de-liver at the time agreed to the place agreed – both in the initial phases and once the supplies are up and running.

Strong commitment DAFA’s competencies encompass many things – one of the most impor-tant being our ability to listen. And being able to understand our customers’ technical and commercial challenges.

A natural aspect of the working rela-tionship for DAFA is gaining insight and having the technical expertise to acquire the knowledge we need to create the best and most valuable solutions.

QualityDAFA’s quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2008. This means that our company undertakes to provide uniform, reliable quality relating to processes and products which are continuously being im-proved for the benefit of customers and suppliers alike.

Environment DAFA is environmentally certified to ISO 14001. This means that DAFA is constantly seeking eco-friendly improvements where our heightened environmental awareness is inte-grated into products and processes. For instance, all the electricity used at DAFA is generated by wind turbines.

For the sake of the environment, our customers and ourselves!

All teamwork starts out by taking small steps. Accordingly, DAFA always ap-proaches new customer relationships with a humble, commercial mindset. DAFA does not want to waste anyone else’s time – nor ours.

To achieve this, we base our working relations on a process which lays the best, most efficient groundwork for collaboration.

Effective process for reliable teamwork

After the initial contacts and meet-ings, the task is defined and DAFA prepares a specification of require-ments which is commented on and approved by the customer.

A product prototype is developed and tested for the customer’s products or manufacturing system. Based on this, the prototype is further adapted or developed before its functional and visual properties can be approved. Product documentation is naturally available for every assignment.

Product quality, functionality, scope, delivery deadlines, pricing and terms of payment are some of the param-eters included in a business agree-ment. A valuable working relationship is first and foremost based on the customer’s requirements – as well as on DAFA’s point of departure – in both the short and long term.
