Development MaterialsThe Development Materials „German for starting

school“ focus on the elementary level in the

following areas:

1. Vocabulary

2. Grammar

3. Writing skills

4. Phonological awareness

Developing German Language Skills at iDSBChildren with different mother tongues are always

welcome at iDSB!

We offer individual and comprehensive support and

learning guidance for children who may not have

an age appropriate command of the German

language. We ensure a competent language learning

environment for your children so that their success

is not left to chance. Our common objective and

aspiration for your child is to enable a successful

career in the German school system.

Development ConceptThe iDSB Development Concept was created on the

basis of findings resulting from language learning

research and language didactics, long-time ex-

perience gained from language learning projects

and the experience of tutors regarding the needs of

the children at iDSB.

For each young learner, we take the different con-

ditions of knowledge acquisition into account including

• Age • Language proficiency • Access to the German language • Demands at school

Bilingual PreschoolYour child will be introduced to the German language

in a playful entertaining manner full of variety using

a communicative and child-oriented approach. In

the penultimate and final preschool year, we support

the development of your child

• in homogeneous small groups • 4 x per week • à 45-60 minutes at the BVS premises.

Primary SchoolFrom year 1 of primary school onwards, we offer your

child up to four “German as a second language”

(DaZ) development lessons. These take place

• in homogeneous small groups • 4 x per week • à 45-60 minutes at the primary school premises.

This offering enables us to intensively support and

accelerate your child’s language development

process, while you ease your child’s transition into

daily school life with its high linguistic requirements.

Our lessons are tailored to the individual needs of

your child and systematically structured according to

linguist learning aspects. We also link this develop-

ment process with the subject matter content of

regular classes in order to support your child accor-

dingly.

Secondary SchoolThe educational and linguistic requirements are very

complex and individually different for pupils above pri-

mary school age who are not German native speakers.

In order to reveal the areas displaying the greatest

need for assistance for your child, we perform a

comprehensive linguistic assessment, where your

child’s language level is initially determined and

ascertained. We create a development scheme for

the course content including

1. (Educational) Vocabulary 2. Writing skills: Reception, Production, Transfer 3. Grammar 4. Spoken Language

iDSB offers your secondary-school-child two free of char-

ge DaZ tuition lessons during school hours within the first

year. These take place

• in small groups • 2 x per week • à 45-60 minutes at the secondary school premises.

In order to accelerate the linguistic integration in class

and during daily school life, we strongly recommend

booking additional DaZ tuition lessons for children with

special development requirements.
