It’s that time of year! On Sunday, 17 November 2019, thousands of cyclists are taking to the streets in the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg (previously known as the 947 Cycle Challenge). For the 23rd edition of the city’s most iconic cycling event, we’re making moving on a bicycle fun and feel-good for everyone, with the original 94.7 km route and a brand-new 40 km Short Ride now open for entries. Ensuring the safety of both cyclists and residents is very important to us. Together with the City of Joburg, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Depart- ment, the Johannesburg Roads Agency and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, we will implement TOTAL ROAD CLOSURES along the route. ● The Discovery 947 Ride Joburg will start and finish at Riversands Commercial Park on the R511. Please familiarise yourself with the route map on the back of this flyer and use the interactive map at www.947ridejoburg.co.za to help you navigate the city and avoid road closures on the day. ● The 947 Vitality Short Ride will start at Melrose Arch and will affect traffic in the area until 11h30 – Athol Oaklands Road and the bridge over the M1 will be a one-way. Please direct all route and road closure queries to the dedicated call centre on 011 017 2700. The call centre is open weekdays from 08h00 to 17h00, and from 04h00 to 16h00 on Ride Joburg Sunday. Bright yellow Ride Joburg traffic advisories will be erected 12 days prior to the 17th of November on all the closed and affected roads. We understand the impact of the road closures and thank you for sharing your streets for the day. Your co-operation ensures the safety of cyclists and their loved ones, and helps make a difference to many through the Ride for a Purpose campaign, which raised over R11.8 million for charity last year, and R100-million over the past seven years. All participants are encouraged to Ride for a Purpose, and there are already over 120 registered charities taking part to raise funds and awareness for their causes.
