KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL | CNH DISTRICT | REGION 3 | DIVISION 41 SOUTH
VOLUME II | ISSUE 7 | DEC 2012
Can there be a better month than December?!
This month is truly jam-packed with events: from
Candidate Training Conference, Rose Float
Decorating, to Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza,
and even New Years‘ Eve! With so much to do,
and so little time, I can only feel the excitement
this time of year!
I want to thank everyone again for always
working so hard—you may feel like an unsung
hero, but your efforts are felt in many ways—I
feel the fruits of your labors and am always
astounded and proud of what you all are able
to accomplish. On that note, thank you for
thinking about Key Club even in the wake of
your busy schedules: from working around sport
conflicts, other extracurriculars, college
applications, household chores, family and
friend commitments, everyday school… I do
notice and I do know the turmoil you are
working around and I am seriously humbled by
the work you always manage to put out for your
community. THANK YOU. Thank you for
everything that you do!
With our winter recess even later into December
this year, I know it may be hard to continue to
volunteer your services that you may have
done last year, but don‘t you worry—there is still
so much you can still do! For one, on Friday,
With our winter recess even later into December
this year, I know it may be hard to continue to
volunteer your services that you may have
done last year, but don‘t you worry—there is still
so much you can still do! For one, on Friday,
December 21 at 6:30pm, don‘t wallow your
time at home anticipating the end of the world,
come on out to the Ice Palace in Aliso Viejo
and spend the good day with your favorite
Division—‗tis the season to celebrate each
other!
And again, during this upcoming break, take
the time to relax and take time for yourself as
the coming of January signals a rush of events
for the division and district—from election
season, to our annual, and much anticipated,
Mr. Key Club Pageant, to future DCM
fundraisers, to DCON 2013—there is too much
to look forward to! Key Club does not slow
down, but actually picks up from here, so get
ready to kick it into high gear!
We‘ll be ending our term ROARING with PRIDE,
so just let those other divisions be wary of our
force. They won‘t even know what‘s coming
their way!
HAVE A SAFE AND FUN WINTER BREAK!

Getting up before 11 am on a Saturday
morning isn‘t easy for most of us…yet over 30
of Aliso‘s dedicated Key Clubbers woke up
bright and early to make it to the intersection
of Crown Valley and Nueva Vista in Laguna
Niguel at 7 am to set up for the Annual Laguna
Niguel Holiday Parade. From horses and fire
trucks to Delorians and baton twirlers, this
Parade was jam-packed with different floats
and local businesses showing their holiday
spirit. The wonderful Aliso Niguel Key Clubbers
did every job from handing out flyers and
information about the parade to viewers, to
actually controlling the traffic flow of the floats!
Talk about pressure! Nevertheless, the
volunteers made sure to be on their A-game
and help the parade run smoothly and
enjoyably. This was Aliso‘s second time helping
out at the Laguna Niguel Holiday Parade and
it sure won‘t be their last!
Spreading the Festive
Spirit to Laguna Niguel
It is not uncommon for anyone to read about
Aliso Niguel Key Club working with the
wonderful SOKA University. One of the most
popular and most anticipated events of the
year for ANHS Key Club volunteers would have
to be the SOKA Holiday Concert. This is the
time of year when Key Clubbers get to dress
up in fancy uniforms, get cool name tags, and
best of all….WEAR SANTA HATS. From ushering
guests attending the concert to their seats, to
making sure no one brings food into the
concert hall, Key Clubbers made sure to let
their festive spirit shine when helping out. Once
every guest was settled in, the volunteers
actually got to go in themselves and watch
the concert! How lucky! One of the volunteers
who attended said, ―It was really cool to see
all the holiday spirit…it got me really excited

A “Pre-Turkey” Trot
On Thanksgiving morning, Dana Hills
Key Club members were up before
the crack of dawn to volunteer at the
2012 Dana Point Turkey Trot. Students
were able to lend a hand by working
at the registration tents and water
stations, awarding runners with their
medals, and more. As sunlight
reached over the ocean water to
warm the harbor, it brought with it a
strong sense of community. While
reminiscing about family traditions
and signing a giant ―Thank you‖ note
to the Marines, volunteers were
reminded that it takes more than just
food to have a perfect Thanksgiving
Day.

Getting up at 4 o‘clock in the morning
isn‘t ideal for most people, but all of the
volunteers at the Dana Point Turkey Trot
were cheerful and ready to help on the
morning of Thanksgiving—once they had
a cup of coffee in them. Capo Valley Key
Club volunteers mainly helped at the
water stations, which ended up getting a
bit…wet. The craziness as a crowd of
runners would go by was exhilarating, and
the group of key clubbers yelling, ―Go!
You can do it! Happy Thanksgiving!‖ was
almost deafening. Sure, getting up really
early in the morning isn‘t the most fun
thing to do on a holiday, but it was
refreshing to see all of those kids up and
going and helping out, giving out water
and cheering on the runners. It was tiring,
but overall enjoyable and made for an
interesting Thanksgiving.

On December 9th, Capo Valley Key
Clubbers hosted a ―free‖ holiday bake
sale to fundraise for PTP. Key Clubbers
were stationed at two tables, both filled
with holiday-themed sugar cookies,
brownies, and donuts. The smell of
Christmas/Chanukkah filled the air,
attracting many shoppers to our tables to
try our scrumptious baked goods. Key
Clubbers explained that not only were we
giving out delicious cookies, but we were
also fundraising for an amazing cause.
Members showed great enthusiasm and
charisma at the bake sale, dancing,
singing carols, and wishing everyone
happy holidays. Capo Key Clubbers truly
embodied the Christmas/Chanukkah spirit
of giving, raising over 230 dollars for PTP!

This year, many people went out
during Halloween and raised money
for Project Eliminate. Laguna Hills
raised over $300 and I was surprised to
see many kids take time out of their
busy schedules and school work to go
out and pledge money for this great
cause. We also had the cutest
decorations on the boxes and will be
giving out a prize for the one who
raised the most money. I look forward
to seeing this event take place next
year. Also, next month we plan on
helping out at marathons and holding
a Toy Drive at our school.

On December 9th, Laguna Hills Key Club
helped out at the Special Olympics in
Irvine. Our job was to be the score
keepers during the field hockey games
and to cheer on our teams. Some of the
games got intense as they fought over
the puck and tripped over a lot. Also,
some of the players came over and
talked to us and it was nice to see how
happy they were to be playing. We
made new friends with other volunteers
and it was an enjoyable event. Of course,
all the teams we scored for won and the
staff was so kind and appreciated our
help. Some of us were also time keepers
where we got to blow air horns and wave
a towel at the referee to signal the period
being over. Hope to do this event next

This November-December Trabuco Hills Key Club collected new toys to
donate to the families of the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines and the USS
McClusky. The toys will be distributed at a banquet soon before the troops
go back on service and it was our pleasure to help out their family!

Let‘s take a Candlelight Tour, shall we? After
I attended this joyful event on December 8th
and 9th at Heritage Hill Historical Park, I really
wanted to go every night. The lights made
me feel warm and fuzzy and the music
made me want to sing Christmas carols. I got
the opportunity on the first night to be
Santa‘s little helper. I offered to take photos
for families with Santa. Some of the most
adorable moments involved the children
telling Santa everything on their wish list and
even wrote Santa letters! I asked Santa why
he volunteered at the park every year.
He answered from the bottom of his heart,
―It‘s truly a rewarding experience. I love
making people happy.‖
On the second night, my job was lighting the
candles inside the bags to make the
walkways luminescent. On my breaks, I
decided to walk around and take photos of
the fantasy scenery. I bought myself a slice
of pizza along with cookies and hot
chocolate. I went inside the School House
and sat in the small wooden desks as I
watched the entertainers sing and tell their
stories. I strolled by St. Georges Church full of

happen definitely shows. Happy Holidays!

Yo, lions! We made it to the 7th issue!
Thank you to all of the schools that
continue to submit photos and
articles. I really appreciate it! I can‘t
thank you all enough.
It‘s flabbergasting how fast this year
went, even with an extra leap day.
It‘s still hard to believe that this is my
last year of high school—I still feel like
a baby. Make the most of your high
school years and do the things you
want to do. You don‘t want to look
back and regret the things that you
didn‘t do. Set your priorities straight,
as well, and keep up those grades!
Work hard, play harder, hehe.
Stay warm, drink water, avoid naps,
and don‘t forget to wear socks to
bed. Please enjoy your breaks,
everyone! Hibernate as you please.
Thank you for the memories, and I‘ll
see you next year!
