People come to Richardson for all kinds of reasons: arts performances, business meetings, weddings, festivals or sports tournaments. They might come to Richard-son because they find reasonably priced hotels in a central location where everything is accessible. For whatever reason they come the first time, they keep coming back for the friendly people, the outstanding
City services and amenities and the relaxed conve-nience the City offers in the middle of the bustle that is the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Because Richardson is just minutes away from two major airports and has easy access to three major thoroughfares and four light rail stations, meeting in Richardson is as easy and fun as staying, playing and returning.

Two of Richardson’s biggest claims to fame are its won-derful festival scene and parks and recreation areas. With 40 miles of hike/bike trails, 30 beautiful parks, base-ball and softball venues, tennis facilities, recreation centers, and nationally-ranked championship golf courses, the Richardson Parks and Recreation department provides citizens with indoor and outdoor leisure and recreation activities year-round.
Richardson has a unique blend of people and cultures and is committed to supporting the arts, leisure, entertain-ment and programs that foster artistic
diversity. The Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations attracts people throughout North Texas to concerts, theater and business meetings. The Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Community Band, Richardson Theatre Centre, Repertory Company Theatre, Chamber Music International, and Richardson Civic Art Society are just a few performing and visual arts groups that make up the cultural fabric of Richardson.
Art, food, music and good times are available in abundance to
visitors at all times of year. Spring and fall are times of especially nice weather in Richardson and special festivals, such as the Cottonwood Art Festival, held on the first full weekends of May and October. The City’s famous Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival is held the third weekend of May and the fun Huffhines Art Trails Festival is held in late October. Throughout the year, the City offers abundant, beautiful park space, spacious hike and bike trails, two terrific municipal golf courses and baseball/softball and tennis facilities galore. Also, Rich-ardson arts groups schedule a variety of events and performances each year as do the University of Texas at Dallas and Richland College.

“There’s an art to having fun” and the fun begins at Cottonwood Art Festival. Twice each year--on the first full weekends in May and October--over 250 of the best local, national and international artists transform Cottonwood Park into a unique, outdoor fine art gallery.
This award-winning art festival features one-of-a-kind, limited edition works in paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media and photography. Cottonwood Art Festival is North Texas’ premier fine arts event.
In addition to the spectacular fine art, Cottonwood also offers delicious cuisine, live music entertain-ment, and a beautifully landscaped courtyard/café that borders Cottonwood Lake--the perfect mid-day stop to sit and relax while you enjoy food, spirits, live music and take in the scenes of the festival. The festivities don’t stop with the adult art aficionados! For the “pint-size Picassos” in the crowd, there’s ArtStop, the festival’s hands-on, interactive children’s area. Over 100 volunteers, life size paint brushes and activities no child can resist! Welcome the little ones to a world of art!

The City of Richardson has over 40 miles of hike and bike trails and that would satisfy any nature lover. Many trails interconnect with other city parks and recreation facilities. Richardson has 13 walking trails and 4 multi-use trails: Breckin-ridge, Central, Duck Creek and Spring Creek.
The Spring Creek Nature Area offers approxi-mately two miles of hike and bike trails in 51 acres of hardwood forest with natural over-looks. Picnic tables, scenic rest stops and even a horseshoe pit are scattered along the trail with lots of interesting places you can explore. The trail links with the Galatyn Park Woodland Preserve.
Central Trail at the Galatyn Woodland Preserve stretches from Lookout Drive to Glenville Drive, located east of the DART Rail line. The eight acres that make up the Galatyn Preserve inter-connect with Central Trail and include a play area with animal sculptures, a wooden board-walk, picnic tables, a chess/checkers table, a boardwalk for bird watching, a horseshoe pit and wetland ponds.
Duck Creek is a multi-use trail with a plaza, picnic facilities, playground equipment and ponds. This trail links with Owens Trail.
Breckinridge Park has 4.5 miles of trails and includes 12 soccer fields, woodlands, three ponds, picnic facilities and restroom facilities.
With two great regulation courses to choose from and a number of tee boxes, Sherrill Park is sure to challenge golfers of all skill levels. Sherrill Park
consistently ranks among the top 10 municipal golf courses and continues to solidify its reputation as a high-quality golf
course.
Leon Howard originally designed both Sherrill Park courses. PGA Tour Profes-
sional D. A. Weibring and Design Resource, Inc. completed the redesign
of Course One in 1997 and Course Two in 2001. The redesign helped create a variety of shot making choices from tee to green. Players at all levels have come to enjoy the look and challenges Sherrill Park has to offer.
Course One is a championship design with narrow fairways lined by large
trees. It has consistently been ranked in the top 10 for municipal golf courses in
the state of Texas.
Course Two is shorter and features wide-open fairways. Water hazards come into play on many holes.
