Academia International College is currently running a Diploma in Multimedia Technology and

Diploma in Visual Communication. All student involved are required to undergo industrial

training from the 21st

January until 29th

march 2007 (10 weeks). This is to full fill the

requirement of a Diploma in Multimedia Technology and Visual Communication.

The purpose of this training is to prepare student to be trained and exposed to real industry

application to enable them to become one of the semi-professional workforce in the country.

Therefore, students are encouraged to seek their training place and cooperate with any of their

choice in order to providing proper training and exposure.

AYM Bistari is one of the companies that have replied my application and agree to take me as

one of their candidate for this training. The company is situated in Bandar Ipoh Raya (Behind

Perak SUK Building), nor far from my home as it takes 30 minutes of driving.

The Company has been appointed as project consultant to publish the second edition of Halal

Perak Directory as the first edition was also given to AYM Bistari. My main duty during this

industrial training is to be responsible in designing advertisement to be published on classified

listing column of the directory.

On the first week, Im tried to get use to the work place. Basically, they are only two staff in the

company. One is on the graphic department, En. Jamari. He is also in charge as my mentor and

trainer as they will put me under his department and the other one is on web department and that

is En. Khalid.

The Graphic Department is responsible in designing advertisement that has been order by the

customer. The design are divided into full, half, quarter and listing page. Since my duties during

this training are on classified listing column, others than this will be done by En. Jamari. While

the graphic department concentrate on designing, the web department duties is to publish all

evaluated design to be publish and updated in the Perak Halal Directory Web.

The Perak Halal Directory is tourism guides magazines that focus on halal product in Perak. Its

contain guides about all halal products in and around of Perak, procedures on getting a Halal

certificate and its important of halal according to Islam. All Halal Certificate holders are

encouraged to participate in this project as this project also approve by The Perak Islamic

Department (JAIP). Any certificate holders that participate with this project will automatically

registered to the Halal Registry System on ISP) that can be access on Perak Halal Directory

Web.

I was team up with graphic department as they only have one graphic artist for that time and

need more workers on that department. My duties is to take the order form, get all company

profiles and product sample base from the info that company has given and designing their

product base on that information. After designing, the work will be printed and sent to my

supervisor for evaluation and comment. If the she satisfied with the work, it will be sent to their

respective company for the owner to evaluate and comment on the design of their product. If

both of them satisfied with the design, then only it will be publish in the magazines and web. But

if not, I have to repair it back and redesign it base on the comment that they have given.

The first two week Im only been given a small size of listing to work with as the manager wants

to test my skill and knowledge. After that, I move to medium and later to bigger size. It took

three days for me to catch up with the work procedures and method. Plus with only three workers

in the office, the environment is really quiet. The manager always out station since she is busy

with marketing and sometimes its really hard to get her sign my weekly log or evaluate my

artworks.

When its comes to evaluation, she always gives a positive comment. Sometimes she even teach

me on how to make works more simplified. There a lot of my artwork that she likes but has to be

rejected because she afraid that is not what the customer wants. In addition, she always comment

that I have to associated more the design with the product.

They are a great opportunity for me to gain new knowledge and skills. Besides the experience

gained during the ten weeks it is widen up my minds on what is mean by Industrial Training. The

most memorable is the true friendship express from the staff that describe as a cultural in the

centre.
