onstrated superior initiative and problem solving [and] goes above and beyond to meet the social, academic and instructional needs of the students.”

Edwards demonstrates strong leadership skills and is a positive role model for the students she serves, and she embraces the diver-sity of the campus. She has played a key role in facilitating effective outreach and recruitment coordi-nation with feeder high schools,

and providing effective counseling and administrative services.

By developing and imple-menting a highly effective financial aid academic progress intervention, Edwards has improved student achievement and understanding of the minimum academic standards required in order to help retain financial aid eligibility.

During Fall 2012 and Spring 2013, she coordinated more than 30 workshops. She was instrumen-tal in developing an assessment

instrument, the presentation mate-rials, and worked one-on-one with students who required additional assistance.

“Edwards has a strong com-mitment to student success and through her efforts is improv-ing such opportunities through education,” the nomination read. “She has a unique ability to con-nect with people from all walks of life and has also helped them to become better students and achieve upward social mobility.”

Language Arts Booksale Opens Monday in Humanities BuildingThe Cypress College Language Arts Booksale will be held in the Humanities Building April 22-25. The fund-

BRIEFLYDr. Kim Bartlett’s fam-

ily made arrangements to conduct a private service for her. At their request, Paul de Dios is working to coordinate a memorial at the college. Once those plans are finalized, the information will be shared with the campus community.

Outside of his job as a campus electrician, Robert Dumont was the drummer for a band called Psykotik Reaktion. The group is plan-ning a tribute/fundraiser/party that features seven bands, including their own.

The event is scheduled for May 5 at La Habra 300 Bowl, from noon until 6 p.m. A voluntary donation of $10 is suggested.

“We are getting a group together from Cypress College to go listen, dance, have drinks, continue to help his family…maybe even bowl!” said Marcia Jeffredo, Dumont’s colleague in Maintenance and Operations. “We have a sign-up sheet at M&O to help plan carpool-ing and to let the organizers know about how many people to expect.”

Retiree Pat O’Brien’s latest novel, The Erebus Pool, is now available on Amazon. He’s now working on his fourth novel.
