This presentation is about exploring opportunities with open source tools, industry, and government as it relates to cyber security. This will allow you to tie in your research to funded opportunities available. Additionally, this will presentation will provide insights on fellowships and grants.

Importance of a Dissertation Chair

● Chair's name and research impact is used on many grants to evaluate your future potential

● Chair should be able to leverage connections for faculty or research based positions

● Chair should be able to direct and assist in building up academic CV

– Book chapters

– Journal publications

– Conference proceedings

● Before selecting a mentor do the following!

– Review Google Scholar to see activity on publications e.g. # of published material, grants received, fellowships received, international recognition, publication impact factor, and etc.

– See what other students the chair has that allows for potential collaborations in the future

– See what the past students have done with their academic or research career
