A. GENERAL

B. HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL CONTROLS

1. THE DATUM USED IN THIS PROJECT WAS ASSUMED. IT WAS REFFERED FROM BM. NO. 1 AT TOP OF EXISTING SLOPE PROTECTION. ELEV = 103.304 M.

C. REINFORCED CONCRETE

1. CONCRETE :

a. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, THE MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH SHALL BE fc'=20.7 MPa AT 14 DAYS, CLASS A WITH MAX. WATER-CEMENT RATIO OF 0.53, SLUMP RANGE OF 50 - 100 mm AND MAX. SIZE OF AGGREGATES SHALL BE 40mm.

2. REINFORCEMENT :

a. BARS SHALL BE OF INTERMEDIATE GRADE, fy = 276 MPa (40,000 psi).b. REBARS SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM A615/AASHTO M31 OR EQUIVALENT PNS 49.c. CLEAR CONCRETE COVER BETWEEN REINFORCEMENT BARS AND EMBANKMENT MATERIALS SHALL BE 75mm.

D. WATER MIXING

1. WATER TO BE USED SHALL BE CLEAN AND FREE FROM INJURIOUS AMOUNTS OF OIL, ACID, ALKALI, SALT, ORGANIC MATERIAL AND SUBSTANCES THAT MAY BE DELETERIOUS TO CONCRETE AND REINFORCEMENTS.

E. EMBANKMENT

1. PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF EARTH FILL, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CARRY OUT UNDER THE SUPERVISION AND TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE ENGINEER A SERIES OF FIELD TEST TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM CONDITION OF COMPACTION AND THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF PASSES FOR EACH TYPE OF EQUIPMENT NECESSARY TOCOMPACT TO THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATION HEREAFTER STATED FOR EACH TYPE OF EQUIPMENT.

2. THE FILL MATERIALS SHALL BE COMPACTED TO A DENSITY OF NOT LESS THAN 100% OF THE MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY. NO MATERIAL SHALL BE PLACED ON ANY PORTIONOF EMBANKMENT FOUNDATION UNTIL SUCH FOUNDATION HAS BEEN CLEARED, APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER FOR PLACING FILL.

F. CONSTRUCTION

1. SPECIFICATION

a. ALL WORKS CONFORM WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND HIGHWAYS (DPWH) STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND AIRPORTS,VOL. ll 2013.

2. SETTING OUT

a. THE SETTING OUT AND THE ELEVATIONS OF THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF THE STRUCTURE SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO THE START OFANY CONSTRUCTION WORKS.

3. REINFORCED CONCRETE

a. CONCRETE MIX AND PLACING

(1) DESIGN OF CONCRETE MIX SHALL MEET THE DESIGN CONCRETE STRENGTH GIVEN UNDER ITEM 1 OF REINFORCED CONCRETE.

(2) CONCRETE SHALL BE DEPOSITED, VIBRATED, AND CURED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS.

(3) FOR CONCRETE DEPOSITED AGAINST THE GROUND, LEAN CONCRETE WITH A MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 50mm SHALL BE LAID FIRST BEFORE INSTALLING THE

REINFORCEMENT. THIS LEAN CONCRETE SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN MEASURING THE STRUCTURAL DEPTH OF CONCRETE SECTION.

(4) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL PLACING SEQUENCES FOR ALL CONCRETE WORK.

b. BAR BENDING, SPLICING, AND PLACING

(1) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL OF SHOP DRAWINGS INDICATING THE BENDING, CUTTING, SPLICING AND INSTALLATIONOF

ALL REINFORCING BARS.

(2) BARS SHALL BE BENT COLD. BARS PARTIALLY EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE SHALL NOT BE FIELD BENT UNLESS SHOWN ON THE DRAWING OR SPECIFICALLY PERMITTED BY THE ENGINEER.

(3) BAR SPLICING SHALL BE AS INDICATED ON DRAWINGS SHALL BE SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.

(4) NO SPLICING SHALL BE PERMITTED IN BEAMS AND GIRDERS WHERE CRITICAL BENDING MOMENTS OCCUR. STAGGER SPLICES BETWEEN ADJACENT BARS. MINIMUM DISTANCE OF 40 BAR DIAMETERS FOR TENSION SPLICES, AND 20 BAR DIAMETER FOR COMPRESSION SPLICES BUT NOT LESS THAN 300mm.

(5) WELDED SPLICES, IF APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER, SHALL DEVELOP IN TENSION AT LEAST 125% OF THE SPECIFIED YIELD STRENGTH OF THE BAR.

(6) NOT MORE THAN 50% OF THE BARS AT ANY ONE SECTION SHALL BE SPLICED.

(7) UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON DRAWINGS, THE CLEAR DISTANCE BETWEEN PARALLEL BARS IN A LAYER SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 1.5 TIMES THE NOMINALDIAMETER OF THE BAR NOR LESS THAN 1.5 TIMES THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF LESS THAN 25mm NOR ONE BAR DIAMETER. THE BARS IN UPPER LAYER SHALL BE

(1) THE POSITION AND FORM OF ANY CONSTRUCTION JOINT SHALL BE AS SHOWN ON DRAWING OR AS AGREED WITH THE ENGINEER.

(2) THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND POUR CONCRETE SHALL BE ROUGHENED WITH AN APLITUDE OF 6mm MINIMUM.

d. PROTECTION AND CURING OF CONCRETE

(1) CONCRETE SURFACE SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SUN, WIND AND RUNNING WATERS AND SHALL BE KEPTDAMP FOR AT LEAST 7 DAYS.

4. REMOVAL OF STRUCTURES AND OBSTRUCTIONS

a. PORTIONS OF EXISTING STRUCTURES, OBSTRUCTIONS AND EXISTING FOUNDATION WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE NEW STRUCTURE SHALL BE REMOVEDTO ACCOMMODATE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROPOSED STRUCTURE.

5. SEGMENT LENGTH

a. THE LENGTH OF ONE SEGMENT OF REVETMENT IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION SHOULD BE LESS THAN 50 METERS IN ORDER TO PREVENT THEEXTENSION OF DAMAGE ONCE ONE SECTION OF REVETMENT COLLAPSES. EDGE OF THE SEGMENT END SHALL BE ADEQUATELY FILLED WITH JOINTMATERIAL (MORTAR) TO CONNECT WITH THE ADJOINING REVETMENT.

GENERAL NOTES FOR FLOOD CONTROL STRUCTURES

G. STEEL SHEET PILE

1. ALL SHEET PILES TO BE USED SHOULD BE HOT-ROLLED STEEL SHEET PILES WITH MIN. THICKNESS OF 10.5mm, EFFECTIVE WIDTH OF 400mm, EFFECTIVEHEIGHT OF 100mm, AND UNIT WEIGHT OF 48 kg/m.

2. SHEET PILES SHALL BE DRIVEN TO ELEVATION SHOWN ON HE PLANS OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER, WHERE IMPRACTICAL TO DRIVE TO PLANELEVATION DUE TO SUBSURFACE CONDITION, THE DRIVING OF PILES MAT BE STOPPED AT HIGHER ELEVATION WITH THE WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THEENGINEER. HOWEVER, BEFORE GRANTING SUCH PERMISSION, THE ENGINEER SHALL ASCERTAIN THAT THE CONTRACTOR HAS ADEQUATE EQUIPMENT FORTHE REQUESTED DRIVING AND THAT THE PILES CAN BE DRIVEN TO THE PLAN ELEVATION WITH THE PROPER USE OF THIS EQUIPMENT.

3. MATERIAL FOR PILE SPLICES (IF ALLOWED) SHALL BE OF THE SAME QUALITY AS THE MATERIAL USED FOR THE PILE ITSELF.

H. CONFIRMATORY SOIL BORING SHALL BE CONDUCTED ALONG THE ALIGNMENT PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION TO CHECK / VERIFY THE STABILITY OF SHEETPILES AND SLOPE PROTECTION.

I. "AS-STAKED" PLAN OR PRE-CONSTRUCTION SURVEY SHOULD BE JOINTLY CONDUCTED BY THE IMPLEMENTING OFFICE CONCERNED AND THE CONTRACTOR.THE CORRESPONDING "AS-STAKED" PLAN SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR APPROVAL BY THE CONCERNED OFFICE.
