The Challenge

ResMed had recently implemented a customized version of

Microsoft’s ERP solution “Dynamics NAV” in their German

office and needed access to up-to-date financial reports off the

NAVision database without impacting the operational

performance of the font-end ERP system. Reporting tools that

had been tried before were difficult to use, slow and required

detailed knowledge of the underlying database schema.

In addition, access was required to other data, critical to the day

to day management and operation of the business which is

held in a variety of 3rd party systems including document

management and work-flow systems, call centre data, sales, HR

and support desk. Bringing this data into a common, consistent

reporting environment was critical.

A further key requirement was the management of stock-levels

and work queues over time where the data is not held

historically. ResMed required a way of generating aging reports

that allowed users to see where their sales and orders were at

specific points in time and see how those sales and orders are

moving between different departments and stages.

ResMed required that the tool would be able to allow users of

different skill levels to run ad-hoc enquiries and write and run

reports across large volumes of data from a single, unified

access point. This involves access not only for users within

Germany but also other offices in Europe (data protection

prohibits access to patient info outside the EU).

Because of the volumes of data and the sensitive nature of

much of the data content, it was critical that access to the data

be secure so that users are only able to access data and reports

on data they are authorised to see.

How CXAIR Has Helped

A series of search engines were built off various ResMed

databases which are populated / refreshed at different time

intervals depending on the volatility of the data.

For the main NAVision system, data was refreshed every 15

minutes to coincide with an automated SQL Server replication

process that provided a replica of the live environment for

backup and security purposes.

After Connexica trained up some key ResMed business analysts

in the use of CXAIR, staff were able to work with the Customer

Service team to develop a suite of critical daily reports and

dashboards that deliver up-to-date personalised access to order

flow and performance metrics.

Additional schedules were configured to provide daily

snapshots of the ImageNow document management and

work-flow system so that users can monitor the day to day and

week on week changes in the status of key documents flowing

through the system.

A set of reports were written by ResMed staff to identify

potential bottle necks and monitor departmental performance.

These reports have led to a number of operational efficiencies

as well as improvements to customer service delivery times.

Other indexes were created over the ResMed customer

satisfaction and survey data allowing users to analyse which

customers were having problems with their treatment and

identifying root cause and outcome data to help improve

take-up of specific breathing devices / masks.

Through this information ResMed are able to perform analysis

by age range, geography and many other attributes which

helps them to provide evidence-based recommendations to

patients of the most suitable mask to use based on the user’s

personal profile.

The ResMed business process and reporting teams were

trained to create CXAIR indexes and reports with the core IT

Infrastructure team only needing to spend a minimal amount of

time ensuring systems are available and backed up. This has

enabled business users to develop and run queries and reports

against their data without having to be totally reliant on IT.

More and more indexes and reports are being made available

as the take-up of the system increases making CXAIR an

essential tool for monitoring business performance and driving

forward business improvement across their entire organisation.
