• ASAP(ASafetyAwarenessProgram)wasintroducedbyNationalLittleLeaguewiththegoal“tocreateawareness,througheducationandinformation,oftheopportunitiestoprovideasaferenvironmentforkidsandallparticipantsofLittleLeagueBaseball.”
• Bycomplyingwiththisrequirementwegetasubstantialdiscountonourlittleleaguefees.$$$$

CVLLVOLUNTEERPOLICY• "Nolocalleagueshallpermitanypersontoparticipateinanymanner,whosebackgroundcheck revealsaconvictionorguiltypleaforanycrimeagainstaminor.Alocalleaguemayprohibitanyindividualfromparticipatingasavolunteerorhiredworker,iftheleaguedeemstheindividualunfittoworkwithminors."
• ThecurrentLLrecommendedvolunteerapplication MUSTbecompletedANDacopyofgovernmentIDMUSTbesuppliedtoinitiateavolunteerapplication.(SeeManagerandCoachApplications.)
• Donotallowanyonetoactasacoachorvolunteerwithoutcheckingtoseeiftheirbackgroundcheckisapproved.
• CodeofConduct tobesignedbyeachplayerparentandcoach.
NationalLittleLeagueSafetyRules
GeneralSafetyRules• Hardplasticmaterial,metalorfibercupsarerequiredformalecatchersandstronglyrecommendedforallmaleplayers,especiallyinfielders.CVLLrecommendsallmaleplayerswearacup.
• Athleticsupportersarerequiredforallmaleplayers• OnlyNOCSAEapprovedhelmetsmustbeusedandtheycannotbemarked,paintedordecalsaddedexceptasauthorizedbythemanufacturer
• Individualdentalmouthguardsshouldbeencouragedforallplayers.
CatcherSafetyRules• Catchersmustwearatleasthelmet,facemaskandthroatguardtowarmuppitchersinthebullpenorpitcherwarmup.
• Catchersmusthavedanglingthroatguards,eveniftheyhavea“hockey-style”helmet
• Skullcapsnotpermitted.• Coachescannotcatchtowarmupapitcher,anotherplayermayaslongasafacemaskisused.
DugoutRules• Onlyplayers,managers,coachesandumpiresareallowedontheplayingfieldordugoutduringplayandpracticesessions.Threecoaches/managerperteam.(4.05)
• Youmustbelistedasacoachormanagerontheofficialrostertobeinthedugout.
• Oneadultmustbeinthedugoutatalltimes.IfenoughadultsareNOTavailablethenaplayermustcoachabase(withahelmet)(4.05)
GeneralSafetyRules• Helmetsmustbewornwhilebattingduringpracticeandgames.
• Duringpracticesessionsandgames,allplayersshouldbealertandwatchingthebatteroneachpitch.
• Keepallequipmentoutoftheplayingfield
BattingRules• Responsibilityforkeepingbatsandlooseequipmentoffthefieldshouldbeassignedtoaregularplayer.Batboys/girlsarenotallowed.
• Atnotimeshould“horseplay”beallowed.Thisincludesclimbingonthedugoutfence!
• Thereisno“ondeck”circleindivisionsbelowjuniors(majors,minorsandT-ball.)ThismeansNOONEshouldhandleabatunlesstheyareATBAT!
• Onlythefirstbattershouldbeoutofthedugoutbetweeninnings.
• Ringshapedbatweights(donuts)arenotallowed.
GeneralSafetyRules-Jewelry• Norings,jewelryormetallicobjectsisallowedexceptmedicalalertitems.Thosemaybewornduringplaybutshouldbetapeddown.
GeneralSafetyRules• Accesstomedicalservicesshouldbemadepriortoallgamesandpractices.Someonemusthaveacellphone!ThereareNOPHONES availableatanyofthepracticefieldsorMehlPark.
• Nogamesorpracticesshouldbeheldwhentheweatherorfieldconditionsarenotgood,particularlywhenthelightisnotadequate.
• Playareashouldbeinspectedfrequentlyforholes,damage,snakes,glassandotherforeignobjectsbeforeeachgamebythecoaches,umpiresandfieldprepvolunteers.Itisyourresponsibilitytomakesurethefieldissafebeforeplaying!
• Dugoutsandbatracksareplacedbehindscreens.
Inspectequipment
• Equipmentshouldbeinspectedregularly.Makesureitfitsproperly.Asktheequipmentmanagerforreplacementorrepairparts.
• AllnonwoodbatsmustbeBPFfactor1.15orless.
• Allnonwoodbatsmustpassthroughalittleleaguebatring.Dentedbatsmaynotbeused.

• Exceptwhentherunnerisreturningtobase,headfirstslidesarenotpermitted(majors,minorsandteeball.)
• Duringslidingpractice,thebaseshouldnotbestrappeddown.
• Pitchingmachines,ifused,mustbeingoodworkingorder(includingextensioncordsandoutlets.)Theymustbeoperatedbyadultcoachesormanagers.
GeneralSafetyRules• Afirstaidkitmustbetakentoallpracticesandgames.• Themanager,coach,oranyplayer,familymemberorumpireshouldreportanyunsafesituations totheCVLLPresidentorSafetyOfficer.
• Watershouldbeavailableatallpracticesandgames.Eachplayerisrequiredtosupplytheirownwater,butextrashouldbeavailable.
• Playermedicalinformationmustbecarriedbythecoachormanager toallpracticesandgames. Theyincludeemergencycontactinformationandmedicalinformation.Incaseofasevereinjury,theseformswillallowyoutocontacttheparentsandgettheambulancetotransporttheinjuredplayerwithsomemedicalinformation.
LocalCVLLSafetyRules
• Faceguardsforhelmetswillbeprovided.• Donotleaveanyplayeralonetowaitforaridehome.• Donotletachildgohomewithanyonewhoisnottheplayer’sparentunlessyouknowthepersonwhoistakingthechildhomeandareawareofridehomearrangementsforthechild.
• Donotallowpersonswhoarenotontheapprovedvolunteerlisttosupervisetheplayers.
BattingCageSafetyProcedures• Donottiethenettothefence. Thenetmusthanglooselytodeadenbattedballs.
• AlwaysstandbehindtheLscreen.• Onlylowimpactballs maybeused.Lowimpactballsaresuppliedinthegreenboxinthecage. Pleasereturnbucketsofballstothegreenboxwhenfinishedandlockit.
• Notify theleaguepresidentorfields’managerifmorelowimpactballsareneeded.
• Failuretocomplywiththeseruleswillriskinjurytoyouandsuspensionofcageprivileges. Pleasereportanyothersafetyissuestothepresidentorsafetyofficer.
IncidentReporting• WhatToReport – Anincidentthatcausesanyplayer,manager,coach,umpireorvolunteertoreceivemedicaltreatmentand/orfirstaidmustbereportedtotheSafetyOfficer.Thisincludesevenpassivetreatmentssuchastheevaluationanddiagnosisoftheextentoftheinjuryorperiodsofrest.

WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT LITTLE LEAGUE INSURANCE
• WARNING: ProtectiveequipmentcannotpreventallinjuriesaplayermightreceivewhileparticipatinginBaseball/Softball.
• TheLittleLeagueInsuranceProgramisdesignedtoaffordprotectiontoallparticipantsatthemosteconomicalcosttothelocalleague.TheLittleLeaguePlayerAccidentPolicy isanexcesscoverage,accidentonlyplan,tobeusedasasupplementtootherinsurancecarriedunderafamilypolicyorinsuranceprovidedbyparent’semployer.

TrainingRules• EACHLITTLELEAGUEMUST(ATAMINIMUM):• Provideandrequirefundamentalstraining,withatleastonecoachormanagerfromeachteamattending(fundamentalsincludinghitting,sliding,fielding,pitching,etc.).Requireeachcoach/managertoattendatleastonceeverythreeyears.
• Requirefirst-aidtrainingforcoachesandmanagers,withatleastonecoach/managerfromeachteamattending.Requirecoaches/managerstoattendatleastonceeverythreeyears.
SafetyTrainingSummary
• MostofthesafetyrulesarecoveredintheLLRuleBookgivenoutinthemanager’sfolder.
• Injuriesmustbereported.• CVLLmusthaveaSafetyProgram– itsavesusmoneyandhelpsprotectthekids.
• CVLLmustprovideandcoachesmustattendfirstaidandskillstraining.
