Work experience

J une – September 2016 Construction Coordinator at Stone House Contracting LtdBetween   June   and   September,   I   worked   for   a   construction   firm   on   a   new   build   development   of   five townhouses   situated   on   Pope   Street,   Southwark   District   of   Greater   London.   The   role   required   me   to coordinate   several   other   subordinates   in   maximising   the   efficiency   of   a   subcontracting   firm   who   were contracted to complete the piling foundations of the townhouse development. In addition, I was responsible for the delegation of work load to certain individuals, estimating and purchasing materials for the site and the keeping of time sheets. The role demanded me to become self aware and to plan ahead in anticipation of any such complications which may arise in the day to day operations on the site, to do so effectively necessitated a

high level of communication at a professional standard across all levels in the organisation and industry.

Once the piling stage was completed I was put in charge of the positioning for the foul and rainwater drainage of  the  townhouse project.  This   involved accurately  measuring  and setting out  the  precise  location of   the inspection  chambers,  manholes   and  drainpipes  using   specific  figures   and   scaled  drawings.  This   task  was pressuring as it was crucial that the drainage was accurately put in as the margin of error was particularly tight in this development. At times I also found that problem solving and decision making was required to overcome multiple complications which arose due to errors made by the architect.

The job required skills  such as  leadership and management,  basic  knowledge surrounding all  construction trades, skills in tools of measurement (disto laser, dumpy level, scale rule etc.) and use of 360 excavator and dumper licence’s etc.

Over the course of the week I shadowed the senior partner Mike Tibbotts visiting multiple client projects ranging in all stages of progression. By the end of the week I had learnt how to use a disto measuring laser to take accurate measurements of any internal/ external features of a hereditament. Additionally, I oversaw how this information was used to create a plan of the property for the client using the computer software – CAD. I also assisted in the task of admission of planning portal declarations for various clients.

July 2015Orbell Associates Quantity Surveying LtdDuring my time working at Orbell Associates a Quantity Surveying firm based in central London I deepened my knowledge and understanding area.

My experience here included shadowing David Orbell an experienced Chartered Quantity Surveyor in forming valuations for properties and attending various client site meetings at head offices. After this I carried out office based work getting to grips with the basic law and economics in Quantity Surveying.

2013/14/15DJM Refurbishments LtdDuring the period between June and September of  2013,  2014 and 2015,   I  enrolled myself   full  time  into learning many different construction trades in order to aid my practical abilities. This has taught me to be a hardworking and responsible person.

2012/13Findon Village SteakhouseAs   my   first   employment   role,   I   began   work   for   Findon   Village   Steak   House   developing   skills   for   future employment.  Including skills such as hospitality, time management, multi-tasking and experience of a work environment for the first time. I started my work here as a pot washer, after a few months I gained experience in the kitchen helping to prepare and ready dishes this meant that I assisted the chefs in order to ensure that food was going out on time. This also allowed me to familiarise myself with how the kitchen operates. I then went on to become a waiter, this built my confidence in helping me to think independently when dealing with different customers allowing me to ensure that my service was recognised of a high standard by upholding high levels of hospitality in being polite, friendly and helpful to customers.
