September-November 2011 National Centre for Domestic Violence, Manchester.Phoneline support.Rang domestic violence clients to prepare ex parte applications for Non-molestation/ Occupation orders, sympathetically took a witness statement and quickly and precisely prepared the documentation.October 2010- March 2011 Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Morecambe. Gateway advisor/ receptionist. On reception I successfully dealt with distressed people, and busy waiting rooms. Depending upon the complexity of the client’s problem, I gave them printed information, or organised an appointment. I sat in on meetings with advisors and took notes to enable them to complete accurate documentation about the case.June-September 2009 Age UK, Uppermill.Shop assistant.Provided friendly customer service, processed new stock, and acted as cashier.

Legal Work Experience

August 2011 Five Paper Buildings, London.Work Experience, 1 week.I shadowed Benjamin Douglas-Jones, a barrister specialising in criminal law. I assisted in the formulation of charges, which resulted in pleas from the two main players in a major London car fraud gang. I carried out research regarding whether an appeal was forthcoming from the opposition in a major civil case.

August- September 2010 Dylan Nair Solicitors, Preston.Work Experience, Personal Injury Law department, 1 month.I conducted telephone interviews with personal injury clients, dealt with customer queries effectively by reviewing their file, and became familiar with the case management software Proclaim. I was commended for my telephone manner, and efficiency, by the senior partner, and offered further work.

July 2010 Gruber Garratt Solicitors, Oldham.Work Experience, Criminal Law department, 1 week.Assisted with defence cases, by analysing CCTV footage and cassettes to provide a transcript and notes on the evidence.

August 2009 Inesons Solicitors, Cleckheaton.Work experience, 2 weeks.Helped to prepare files, met clients, and observed court proceedings in a broad range of practice areas.

Achievements

Regularly manage Majestic Wine Clitheroe by myself, or with a junior staff member. Also I have covered in the Sheffield, Huddersfield and Hale Barns Stores and run them successfully.

Have organised and led wine tasting events for Charities, Pubs, Spas and other Organisations, and in-store events- the intensive 1.5 hour ‘Wine Course’, and ‘Spotlight Tastings’ of particular regions.

Was a founder member, and General Secretary, of Lancaster University Clay Pigeon Shooting club. I organised our participation in the ‘Roses’ sporting competition with York University.

Participated in Lancaster University’s Mooting Competition on three occasions, assisting in the preparation of contract, tort, and criminal law cases. Each time our team won several rounds. I was Counsel in the final round, and was commended for my clarity by the Judges.

Took part in a presentation to prisoners- ‘Bars in their eyes’ at HMP Preston. Completed BPP Law School’s Commercial Awareness course.
