A project to build new housing in Brinnington was revealed recently to contain plans to build on land within the boundary of the much-loved Reddish Vale Country Park. It had not been stated in Council reports to Councillors that the land was within the park. Cllr David Wilson said “We will not allow one inch of Reddish “We will not allow one inch of Reddish “We will not allow one inch of Reddish “We will not allow one inch of Reddish Vale to be built on. Now it has been confirmed that the land earmarked for housing by the Council is in Reddish Vale, Labour Councillors will be at the forefront of the campaign against the plan to build there. “Reddish Vale is an absolutely vital green “Reddish Vale is an absolutely vital green “Reddish Vale is an absolutely vital green “Reddish Vale is an absolutely vital green lung for local people and it is totally off limits for any lung for local people and it is totally off limits for any lung for local people and it is totally off limits for any lung for local people and it is totally off limits for any development”development”development”development” added Cllr Wilson.

Bound together Bound together Bound together Bound together by Redby Redby Redby Redddddfestfestfestfest The hard work and dedicated efforts of all concerned in organising this years ‘Reddfest’ paid off as the sun shone down on the 2013 Summer Arts and Craft festival. Visitors, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport, were delighted to see the talents of the individual local artists and craft stallholders on display and were also treated to an improvised disco concert!

This summed up what the organisers had hoped to and succeeded in achieving. The artist was Sophie-Jayne Edwards. Congratulations to all concerned for a great day for Reddish. We hope to see you again next year.

Cllr Kate Butler said “I was very impressed by the quality of the children’s art work and especially one of the winning entries from Reddish Vale Technology College entitled Reddish - A Community that sticks together”.

Are we really all in it together?

As part of our ongoing ‘Reconnect’ Constituency campaign with residents , Reddish North Labour team alongside MP Andrew Gwynne, organised a very successful coffee morning at North Reddish Park. Kate, David, and Paul listened closely to a number of concerns and complaints raised by local people which included housing queries, rat run speeding, road repairs, and not least dog fouling. Of particular concern to residents on the Poets Corner estate was a serious escalation of anti –social behaviour. Stockport’s Lib Dems and Tories have shown once again that they will not stand-up for local people against the damage their Coalition Government is wreaking on Stockport residents. At the June Full Council Meeting, Cllr Paul Moss proposed a motion asking for Lib Dem and Tory Councillors to join our calls for the Bedroom Tax to be scrapped. Sadly, the Coalition partners refused to support us. 3,000 people in Stockport are losing an average £13 a week, making it harder for them to cover their bills and provide for their families. The majority of people affected by the Bedroom Tax are in work and two-thirds of the households affected are home to someone with a disability. Cllr Cllr Cllr Cllr Paul MossPaul MossPaul MossPaul Moss said: “Losing £13 a week might not sound like a lot to some people, but for the residents that I’ve been dealing with who have been affected by the Bedroom Tax, £13 a week can be the difference between keeping their heads above water and falling into debt.”

Tougher Action Needed!Tougher Action Needed!Tougher Action Needed!Tougher Action Needed! Cllr Wilson was grateful to The Stockport Express in following up freedom of information requests that revealed an astounding level of fly tipping in the borough with a total of 2,079 reported incidents. Smelly, overfull bin bags are often dumped in open view along Gorton Rd. ‘’Our locality is being brought down by fly tipping and graffiti and I call on the Council and magistrates to enforce tougher penalties for all those offenders traced and prosecuted” said Cllr Wilson.

Pride of our TownPride of our TownPride of our TownPride of our Town Cllr Wilson was one of many who took time out from work and lined the A6 in front of Stockport Town Hall to cheer on and welcome the civic parade and march past of the Mercian Regiment.

David commented, ‘’Both as a citizen and local Councillor this was one occasion I was determined not to miss and it was heartening to see the local townsfolk cheer on our returning soldiers in the run up to Armed Forces Day.’’
