2. Technology Integration Rationale Although clouds and weather are phenomenon that we observe and deal with every day, teaching this topic could prove to be difficult in a formal classroom setting. Without the use of various technological resources, it would be hard to show students the types of cloud formations that exist, how they function, and the weather that they bring. This topic is one that is learned best with multiple visuals and teaching aids. This allows teachers to approach the material in different ways, giving students an in-depth ability to look at and learn about clouds. Photos, videos and hands-on activities are pertinent to the teaching of this topic to allow a clear understanding to occur. 3. Internet Resources The Weather Channel: (Click on the image to see more) This is a great website for students looking to learn more about how clouds and weather are related. This resource would allow students to learn how to track the weather conditions they are seeing in their area, and to help them make predictions based on cloud formations they see. 9. Internet Resources National Geographic: (Click on the image to see more) This educational encyclopedia gives students a straight-forward explanation of what cloud formations are, and what patterns to look for in the sky in order to categorize them. Using this resource allows students to look at beautiful photo slideshows, and see definitions of topics related to clouds in more indirect ways. 10. Internet Resources NASA: (Click on the image to see more) This website is a great resource for students who would like to get a more in-depth explanation of clouds. It explains how they are formed, and why cloud study is important for NASA to research. Students are also able to briefly learn about how clouds on other planets are studied. 11. Kidspiration 12. Teaching Material #1 Quizlet Flashcard Generator (click here to go to the site) One of the highlighted features of this website is the availability of pre-generated flashcards, which can be accessed either at school or at home, giving students a multi-location resource for practice and study. This website also gives students access to instructional games, pre-made study questions and informal quizzes. This helps students learn how to self-evaluate what they have learned. 13. Teaching Material #2 These worksheets check for reading and question comprehension by asking students to look over charts and maps and answer related content questions. 14. Teaching Material #3 Word searches are a great way to engage students. It helps them learn what vocabulary words they might be responsible for during the course of a unit, while helping them practice spelling and word referencing during their search. 15. Teaching Material #4 Cloudspotter: Theres an app for that! (Click on the image to download on Itunes) This application uses cloud formation photographs and the ability to ask questions within the app. Cloudspotter also allows the user to take photos of the sky and submit them to cloud experts to identify the cloud formation for them if they are unsure about what they are viewing. This allows studetns to participate in extended learning in a fun, creative way. 16. Subject-Specific Internet-Based Resources Science Net Links: Measuring Cloud Coverage (Click on the link above to read about it) This website is a great resource that gives teachers a variety of materials that can be used when implementing a lesson on clouds.
