description

Each lesson consists of a double page of activities. The three lessons within a topic each cover a different aspect of the topic, so you can use more than one lesson with higher level classes and they will still find the material stimulating and interesting. The length of the lessons will vary depending on the level of the class and how the activities are tackled. Activities can be exploited in different ways according to their appropriacy for the students in your class. Most of the lessons contain presentation material, which introduces the topic and gives the students information about the subject. This is followed by activities that help the students understand the text, including matching, true/false activities, gap filling, quizzes, scanning and skimming activities. The second page usually provides extension of the topic and/orconsolidation activities in the form of games and puzzles. Photocopy both pages of your chosen lesson for each student so that the lesson progresses from presentation to freer activities. The types of activity are varied and include individual, pairwork and groupwork activities, plus activities that can be used for homework. Some of the activities are open-ended or lead on to discussion and extension. work; others have specific answers. There is an answer key at the back of this book. Refer to this to check students' work as a whole class, or photocopy it and distribute it for individual or pair checking. Many of the topics lead naturally on to further project work. Students can prepare projects based on British and Irish culture or based on aspects of their own culture.
