Juraidah Ahmad obtained her Diploma in Civil Engineering from Universiti

Teknologi MARA in 1984 and a B.Eng (Hons) degree in Civil and Structural

Engineering from University of Bradford, United Kingdom in 1995. In 2002, she

received a Master’s degree in Geotechnical and Geological Engineering from

Universiti Putra Malaysia. She obtained a PhD in Civil Engineering from Universiti

Teknologi MARA in 2010. She has been serving UiTM since January 1995 as a

Major Research Themes

Development of Superpave Design of Hot Mix Asphalt under Malaysian Condition

(e-Science Project)

This study is focused on the newly developed mix design method using Superior Performance Pavement.

Currently, Malaysia still adopts the Marshall mix design method which was initiated since 1940s. It is timely

that the mix design is focused on performance criteria rather than empirical method. The findings were

published in indexed proceedings and refereed journals.

Formulation of Asphalt Emulsion Using Nano-Sized Polyacrylates/Natural Rubber Latex Blend

(NPA/NR)

(Dana Kecemerlangan Project)

This research attempts to formulate new modifier asphalt emulsion using nano polyacrylates and natural

rubber blend. The straight run binder used currently needs enhancement for better performance and

durability throughout the service life of pavement. This study is important because new formulation is able to

give better results and hence reduce the maintenance costs of pavement in the long term. The findings are

published in indexed proceedings and also referreed journals.

The Effect of Moisture Damage on the Water Sensitivity due to Moisture Damage of Warm Porous

Asphalt Mix

(FRGS Project)

The modified and new model to enhance concrete strength and durability through bacterial microbial

precipitation was investigated and established. Thermus thermophilus (thermophilic bacteria) was introduced

in concrete as an agent to form calcite precipitation (which has not been explored by other researchers) and

consequently, the precipitation fills the pores and heals cracks in concrete. The bacteria are firstly reacted

with silicic acid to form silicate which is similar to the product that possesse pozzolanic reactivity. The findings

are published in ISI journal indexed, presented at international conference, exhibited at invention and

innovation expo and published in newspaper article.

Engineering Properties and Performance Evaluation of Cold-in-Place Recycling (CIPR) Under

Superpave Design System

(e-Science Project)

This research explores the fabrication and use of fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) bars based on natural fibre

(kenaf) for application as skin reinforcement and also as bar for strengthening reinforced concrete structures.

It is found that Kenaf FRP (KenFRP) bars as skin reinforcement increase the ultimate load of the beam

structure. KenFRP bars can be used to reduce the cracking of the reinforced concrete beam in the area of

deep zone as good as other synthetic FRP bars. In terms of shear strength, load-deflection relationship,

load-strain relationship and crack width, the performance of kenaf fibre (KenFRP) as a strengthening material

was found to be similar and to the specimens that strengthened with conventional FRP. The development

work of the KenFRP is continuing in collaboration with a professor at faculty of Material and Mineral

Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

The Effect of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) Proportion on Strength Properties of Full Depth

Pavement

(Dana Kecemerlangan Project)

The Cold-In-Place Recycling (CIPR) technique was first introduced in Malaysia around the mid 80’s. Since

then, the concept of recycling road pavements as an alternative rehabilitation measure has become popular

and acceptable. The technique involves recycling of all the asphalt pavement section and a portion of the

underlying materials with an addition of stabilizing agents to produce a stabilized base course. One of the

advantages of the CIPR is cost savings of up to 40 percent over conventional techniques.
