territorial/ Short description: The programme aims to address the challenge of a novel and innovative

concept of public buildings, i.e. the creation of Positive Energy Intelligent Buildings. The outputs of the project include pilot buildings of high energy efficiency, architectural integration of renewable energy sources and charging stations that promote sustainable mobility. Moreover, the outcomes include the creation of an electronic platform for the building’s energy performance monitoring and for remote real-time controlling. Finally, the project will allow the creation of manuals on methods and good practices for future energy upgrades of public buildings within the Mediterranean region, as well as in Europe. The new form of public building aims to develop awareness on sustainability, leading to economic, environmental and social benefits.

1998 Philokyprou, M. 1998 “Building Materials and Structures in Ancient Cypriot Architecture”, unpublished Ph.D. Thesis in History of Architecture in Cyprus. The structures and various traditional building materials were studies in detail in situ and analysed in the laboratory using contemporary methods of analyses (chemical, X-Ray diffraction, thermal analyses, scanning electron microscope etc) in order to investigate the pyrotechnology known during the first periods of antiquity in Cyprus. 2018-present Critical Committee for the architectural competition of the area of Zihouri, Larnaca. This competition was organized by the Municipality of Larnaca. I am participating in this committee as a representative of the Department of Architecture of the University of Cyprus.

2016-present Member of a National Committee for the documentation and the protection of the historic and traditional buildings of the old city of Famagusta.

2014 Critical Committee for the architectural competition of the restoration and revitalization of a historic area of the old city of Paphos (hani of Imbrahim). This competition was organized by the Municipality of Paphos. I participated in this committee as a representative of the Department of Architecture of the University of Cyprus.

2007-2012 Cyprus Platform for Research and Τechnology Construction National equivalent of the European Construction Technology platform under the auspices of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK). Active member of the Cultural Heritage Workgoup.

2011 Committee for the Prize in Memory of Alexis Theodosiades for 2010 which was awarded to the Cypriot architect who had accomplished a remarkable work of conservation/restoration of a traditional or historic building or a monument, or for the proper intervention or reconstruction of a natural or hereditary landscape of Cyprus. I participated in this committee as a representative of the Department of Architecture of the University of Cyprus.

7. PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS (ARCHITECT IN PRIVATE SECTOR)

2010-2012 Survey, conservation of my private vernacular listed house in Kapedes and its reuse as a vacation house. At the same time this house is now being used as a pilot case study for a research project that investigates the environmental features of the vernacular architecture of Cyprus.

1999-2005 Design and supervision of the construction of a contemporary monastery of 1000 m2, adjacent to the historic monastery of Ayios Nicolaos in Orounda.

1992-2001 Survey, conservation and reuse of vernacular and listed buildings in Nicosia (Ayios Andreas, Kaimakli), Limassol and Cyprus villages (Omodhos, Peristerona, Lefkara, Alethrico).

1999 Participation in competitions for the design of village squares, and inclusion among the 7 architectural offices selected for submission for the design of the central square of Aglandjia and the roads leading to it.

1998-1999 Survey and historic study of three colonial buildings in Paphos (Old Court House, Post Office, Land Registry) in collaboration with the Public Works Department, the survey of Hala Soultan Tekke in Larnaca in collaboration with the Technical Chamber of Cyprus and Unops (United Nations project) and the survey of the Monastery of Panayia tou Kykkou.

1995-1999 Rearrangement of squares and other open spaces of Platanistasa and Polystypos village (in collaboration with the Cyprus Tourist Organization) and rearrangement of a village square in Tochni village, Cyprus.

1992-1999 Design and supervision of the construction of new buildings, mainly houses in Nicosia, Lakatamia, Kailmakli, Latsia, Larnaca, Oroklini and a complex of multiple uses.

1992-1997 Survey and supervision of the conservation of ancient monuments and historic buildings such as the Monastery of Panayia tou Sinti in Paphos, which was converted into a Museum and was awarded a Europa Nostra prize in 1997, the church of St. Constantinos and Eleni and the mediaeval bridge of Tochni village, the Evanthia Pieridou Mansion in Larnaca and other projects.

1992-1995 Study and classification of vernacular buildings in Lefkara village as part of a project assigned to me by the Department of Town Planning and Housing and the study of the architectural character of the villages of Polystypos and Platanistasa in Nicosia district Cyprus, under a project of the Cyprus Tourism Organization.
