2006-2007 College of Human Ecology Dean’s Award for contributions to community engagement in West Greenville

($500). Participation with R. Sweet in Hard Hats and Colleagues in Community Engagement supported two initiatives: (1) addressing home ownership in the 45-block area of West Greenville through development of studio projects providing residential designs that are affordable, sustainable and historically sensitive to the historic area; and (2) addressing substandard dwelling units owned by low-income households with elderly and infirm residents through the formation of a local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a 501-C3 non-profit organization that coordinates volunteer efforts to revitalize impoverished neighborhoods.

The interior design program under the leadership of Y. Savut won an award by the National

Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) in recognition of achievement for 2006 Outstanding Annual Requirements. The criterion for this award was to earn an average minimum score of 93 out of 100 points on the evaluation of student project submissions fall 2006. ECU received top ranking of the 37 endorsed college programs and the 16 supported interior design programs evaluated by NKBA.
