Common Core Georgia Performance Standards

• Georgia joined with 47 other states to develop a set of core standards for K-

12. These standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for

success in college and/or the 21st century workplace. On June 2, 2010 the

Common Core State Standards were released. The Georgia State Board of

Education adopted the CCGPS on July 8, 2010.

• The standards give clear guidelines for teaching the subjects, testing what

students are learning, and the work students are doing. They explain the level

of work (rigor) that allows a teacher to know "how good is good enough."

• Student grades are expected to reflect an appropriate amount of curriculum assessment. There should be a balance of grades in each category to support appropriate assignments based on units of study.

• If the course requires an End-of-Course Test (EOCT), the EOCT will weigh 20% of the student’s final grade. The remaining 80% of the student’s grade is determined by the final average in the course.

y(1) Written and verbal notice in a timely manner provided to the parents or guardians that the student isexperiencing academic difficulties.(2) A written plan to accelerate, differentiate or provide additional instruction to remediate the academicdifficulties, and, or(3) A referral to the Student Support Team (SST) and written documentation of the SST disposition,(4) Written documentation of continuous monitoring of progress through the implementation of the plan forremediation,(5) Written documentation of continuous communication with the parents or guardians regarding thestudent’s progress through the plan for remediation,(6) Written documentation of the effort to involve, demonstrate, and inform the parents or guardians of howthey can assist in the remediation efforts for the student, and(7) Written documentation of the notice to parents or guardians that the student shall be retained.
