HSC Minimum StandardsLiteracy and NumeracyStudents in New South Wales will need a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to receive the HSC from 2020. The standard is set at a basic level of literacy and numeracy essential for everyday life and is assessed across three areas reading writing and numeracy. Over 13 years of schooling it is expected that students will develop the skills to be able to do things like write a letter for a job application or understand a mobile phone plan.

This consistent of 3 Online Tests in Reading, Writing and Numeracy. The Reading and Numeracy Test consists of 45 multiple choice questions and the Writing Test is based on a response to a stimulus.

HSC Minimum StandardsContinued…Students must pass all three of the tests to meet the HSC Minimum Standard.

An email will be sent to students in the lead up to the test with access to a practice test.The online test will be administered at school. Students are notified of their results via email.

Erina High School supports our students meeting the HSC Minimum Standard with; Learning Activities within the curriculum to develop the Literacy and Numeracy skills Access to practice tests Targeted support for students that are unsuccessful Two testing opportunities each year from Yr10-12.

Extra Curricula Opportunities are in abundance.This could include sport carnivals & representation, STEM, Art Club, Dance Festival, Choir, Homework Centre, GATS Days, Creative and Performing Arts Events, cultural program’s, field trips, excursions and specialised programs within key learning areas.

Mobile PhonesPhones disrupt the learning environment. They are NOT used in the classroom.

Phones are to be in bags and turned off or on silent.Every classroom has a bag zone.

Students place their bags into the zone after taking out their equipment needed to support their learning.

Roll CallStudents develop a love for reading and become better learners.

Just 20 minutes reading a day can significantly improve their growth and learning progression.

EHS makes it happen. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”, Dr Seuss.

Tip: Organising and scheduling a study routine is strongly recommended.

Recommended time for homework: Between 1 to 2 hours most evenings.

After school activities are very beneficial to thriving at school, supporting wellbeing and maintaining a life balance.

Attendance Attendance at school is compulsory. 100% attendance is the expectation. Attendance Actions begin when below 85%. Days off need to be supported by a parent letter or

phone communication to the office. It is also important that students attend school to

ensure continuity of learning.
