#CURLCOLLECTION

MY HEART IS HEAVY. SINCE THE TRAYVON MARTIN VERDICT I HAVE BEEN IN A STATE OF SHOCK, FEAR, AND DEEP THOUGHT. I’VE REFLECTED ON THE MESSAGE THE VERDICT SENDS AND I’VE REFLECTED ON WHAT I CAN DO AS AN INDIVIDUAL. I’VE decided to be more aware of who I spend my money with. I will SUPPORT BLACK OWNED COMPANIES AT EVERY POSSIBLE (EVEN IF IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE). I want TO SUPPORT companies WHO HAVE THE SAME INTERESTS, STRUGGLES, AND APPRECIATES my MONEY. I sometimes WONDER IF WE UNDERSTAND OUR BUYING POWER? Did you know the BLACK HAIRCARE MARKET IS A $684 MILLION DOLLAR Industry? Have you noticed the mainstream HAIR COMPANIES have suddenly began to APPEAL TO the ‘NATURAL’ market? Large companies ARE LOOSING MONEY as RELAXER SALES decline, approximately 30% IN THE PAST 3 YEARS. As a result they are trying to target and takeover the natural market. However, the SMALL, BLACK, FEMALE OWNED COMPANIES who are the pioneers of the natural hair industry are fighting to protect & maintain their position. LET’S SUPPORT BLACK-OWNED NATURAL HAIR COMPANIES AND HELP THEM SECURE A PLACE IN THIS MILLION-DOLLAR INDUSTRY. THE QUALITY AND CARE they put INTO PRODUCT development IS UNMATCHED BY THE LARGE HAIR COMPANIES. I’D RATHER BUY PRODUCTS FOR MY NATURALLY CURLY HAIR FROM SOMEONE WHO LOOKS LIKE ME AND TRULY UNDERSTANDS MY CURLS & ME. I HOPE THAT YOU FEEL THE SAME. XOXO, Nadja Renise

BEHIND THE BRAND

1. Describe MAINELEMENT: LOVE in 3 words? AROMATIC – ADDICTIVE - AFFORDABLE 2. What inspired the development of YOUR LINE? mainelement: love began almost 5 years ago as a bath and beauty company, around the same time that I began my natural hair journey. While making and selling my bath and body line, women were continuously asking me to make for them what I was making for my own hair. When I realized a few years later that I was selling more hair care products than bath body, I decided it was time to focus my time, energy and efforts into my true passion. 3. What is your go-to PRODUCTS FROM YOUR LINE? The Aloe Conditioner is always my go to product because I’m a wash n go girl at heart. No matter how much I abuse my hair (and as busy as I am, I do sometimes abuse it) my Aloe Conditioner always brings my hair back to life. 6. When you’re not working, what do you do to relax? I’m blessed to love what I do, so it’s not very often that I’m not working in some form or fashion; one of the joys of working within your passion. However, when I do have a bit of downtime, I love to read or enjoy a bit of reality TV and always listening to music. 7. If we pushed play on your iPod, what would we hear? 99% of the time, you’ll HEAR A PLAYLIST compiled of my favorite neo-soul artists including Eric Roberson, Dwele, Sy Smith, and Leela James to name a few. 8. What can we expect to see from MAINELEMENT: LOVE in 2013? Be on the lookout for a deep conditioning treatment w/ a new aromatherapy blend later this year. We’ll also be vending at Nappiology in Dallas in November. 9. Where can your products be found? My product line is online via my website, however I am in talks with a few retailers to discuss being carried on the ground. We are excited to be carried over in France by Nat’tricia Shop who ships throughout France.
