Dear Friend,
We give thanks for your faithful and generous support that helps make the words of John 10 come true for people like Sharidah (front cover and page 6); she has moved from rejection and despair to running a small grocery shop and describing herself as ‘happy’.
You can continue to help people affected by leprosy by:
• Buying handcrafted items made by our skilled artisans, highlighted by these symbols
• Choosing a Gift of Love to provide medical care, education, sanitation and livelihoods
• Adding a donation to your order
• Encouraging your friends and family to help too
‘I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.’ John 10:10
• Pass on a copy of the catalogue to your family and friends
• Praying
Every blessing to you and your loved ones for this Christmas season,

SHARIDAH’S STORY
Sharidah is 60 years old and lives in a leprosy community in India. When the symptoms of leprosy began to show, her husband divorced her and she was forced to leave her village. She never imagined she would lead a fulfilling life again, but she was encouraged to join a Leprosy Mission self-help group. The support from people like you helped her set up her own shop. The Leprosy Mission have also trained her to be a Leprosy Champion who stands up for the rights of leprosy affected people eg. She protested against the authorities because people with leprosy did not have access to fresh drinking water.
Small Business Start-Up 11290 Kick start a small business. The income leads to further opportunity, independence and dignity for a person affected by leprosy.
Water Pump 11293
Access to clean drinking water is a necessity in areas of extreme poverty. Water connection and a drainage system in a remote village is an amazing gift... the whole community will be healthier and less vulnerable to diseases like leprosy.
Everything you buy helps to change lives and cure more people!
This resulted in a water pump being built in her community. She also advises how leprosy affected people can gain disability benefits, education and food rations, all of which they are entitled to, but which are often denied them. She now describes her life within the community as ‘happy’, and her passion and zeal for helping others is very infectious.
Give a Gift of Love to a loved one which, in turn, makes a real and lasting difference to someone affected by leprosy.
Sharidah says people can be reluctant to buy things from her shop, when they see her leprosy affected hands or feet.
Help others like Sharidah by donating or buying Gifts of Love
Thanks to people like you, Sharidah now fights for the rights of leprosy affected people in her
community and has set up her own grocery shop

SHOES FOR CHRISTMAS
Thanks to you Kunti received shoes to protect her feet and no longer has ulcers.
“I first noticed the signs of leprosy about 16 years ago. I was planting rice and I realised I couldn’t feel anything in my left foot. My feet became swollen and I developed a bad ulcer on my foot. Everyone saw it and knew I had leprosy.
I went to a pharmacy and they referred me to a local hospital for treatment. When I discovered I had leprosy I felt very, very, very sad. My own family stopped respecting me when they found out.
They refused to help me. I was on my own.
But my brother-in-law, who lived in my village was kind to me. He saw me crying alone in a field and helped me get to The Leprosy Mission Hospital at Anandaban for treatment.
Everyone else in my community seemed to hate me and wouldn’t talk to me. My husband wouldn't even let me inside my own house.
After my 6 months treatment I came home with a certificate saying that I am cured and non-infectious. Also, my-brother-in law helped to tell other people
in my village that I am cured. My family accepted me back into my home again.
At the hospital I learned self-care and received shoes which help protect my feet. Now, even though I don’t have any feeling in my left foot, I haven’t had any further ulcers.
I was recently able to recognise that one of my friends also had leprosy. I was able to help her to go to Anandaban for treatment too. Please continue to support our group.”
To give shoes, use the order form in the centre pages.
You can buy protective shoes for someone with leprosy and prevent a lifetime of suffering. Simply make your selection on the order form in the centre pages.
Without protective shoes, her feet will become more damaged. Eventually she won’t be able to walk, work or care for her family.
It costs just $15 to buy shoes
