Post HS Planning: 11th Grade

Important To Do’s for Next Year:

✓Focus on grades- Aim for the highest grades possible in the most appropriate, yet challenging courses

✓Complete Career Interest Inventory and Start College List on Naviance! Begin using this college planning tool and do some research (NAVIANCE is VERY useful but very underused by CHS students)

✓Continue extra-curriculars and activities! Students should try to be involved in activities besides their classes (clubs, sports, leadership, volunteering, internships, jobs, etc.)

Suggestions for the summer:

✓Volunteer, Intern, Work! Grow personally and gain experience helpful for yourself and college!

✓Enrichment Learning! Taking classes at community college or other institution.

✓Visit colleges! They will be there for at least 4 years…likely on their own

✓Plan ahead! Family calendar that includes major events/activities in junior year* (ex: family trips, sport tournaments, testing)

6. Recommendations: Student Planning

Tips for a successful Junior year:

✓Get involved! Get passionate! Clubs, sports, community involvement

✓Do the work! Upper-classmen = independence and responsibility (be realistic, ask for help, find new ways to study, be proactive)

✓Talk it out! “Highs/Lows; Pits/Peaks”; write notes, family message board; weekly check-ins; discuss college and finances

✓Be their support! (and find yours)
