AUTHOR INDEX FOR MAJOR RSCJ ARTICLES
It is virtually impossible to define precisely what constitutes an article that should be
listed. Wilf Nodder wrote almost all the first issues himself, often basing his notes on letters
he had received. There is, however, no doubt that his major contributions merit inclusion in a
list of articles. Gerry Simpson also wrote a high proportion of the content of the Journals he
edited, although he did not always add his initials at the end of his notes. His more lengthy
contributions undoubtedly also merit inclusion as articles. There is a further problem of
contributions made to sections such as ‘Matters arising’ from 05 onwards. Contributions
under the name of a member that are a page or more in length are included in the listing
below. Shorter notes and contributions written by the Editor or a Section Editor on the basis
of information submitted are not listed. Articles and Study Research papers listed as such in
the ‘Contents’ on the cover of issues 105 onwards are identified with an asterisk.
Further problems arise with the special Conference issues of the Journal. In these the
contributions range from important articles to a simple listing of an exhibit. The latter, with
the exception of listings that contain information, which may not be otherwise available, are
excluded.
The composition of the Double Head Committee has varied over the years. A Sub-
committee was set up in 1977 (100/117), but after reviewing the O’Connell Collection
(100/113) and the publication of Gerald Simpson’s memo (105/8) little progress was made.
The publication of an important article by David Zaayer in 1979 (107/119) revived interest in
the project, and in the following year the Committee began the work which led to the series of
articles on the colours of the ‘double heads’ published from 1984 onwards. D. Lambert, G.H.
Simpson and J.N. Michael remained with the Committee, with C.M. Hoffman as Secretary; J.
Barber, D.B. Forgan, R.M. Gibbs, A. MacGregor, S. Reah-Johnson and D. Zaayer have made
important contributions.
