Environmental issues are largely invisible on a day-to-day basis:

Awareness campaigns – often focused on distant locations e.g. Arctic

Circle.

Local Environmental Data is often available but difficult to find or

access.

It’s also difficult to relate to this data.

The Problem Being Solved

The Solution

#edxhack

Develop a game, taking data from surrounding locations (using the

EDX platform).

Use this data to affect the game parameters, bringing environmental

data to life in your city.

Provocation through design

Target user or customer

#edxhack

PEOPLE!

• Education – schools, kids, teachers

• Local Authorities

• Researchers – design probes, workshops

Monetisation & Value

#edxhack

Value goes beyond simple monetisation…

• Bringing this data to life in a game brings issues to the masses

• More awareness => More activism, action, and solutions

• Monetisation comes later, indirectly, as the future becomes more sustainable.

Potential partners / channels and next steps

#edxhack

We worked with two DEFRA datasets…

• But they were quite disparate, in terms of format.

• Produce a fully-fledged API to use DEFRA-collected data.

• Also add in Geocoding

• Output in a common format (no scraping!)
