MONDAY, APRIL 8TH

“A Journey through Music’s Past” performed by Anita Stapleton

Nashville-based artist Anita Stapleton’s talents have taken her to stages all over the world, including the most famous stage in country music: The Grand Ole Opry. Once a former backup singer for country superstar Patty Loveless, Anita now performs in music clubs and churches east of the Mississippi. She will sing a variety of pop, country and gospel tunes from the 1940’s-1980’s when she makes her Covenant Woods debut.

“Italian Love Songs, Polkas, and American Classics” presented by The Squeeze Play Band

The Squeeze Play Band consists of duo Ed Polich and Paul Muller. With Ed on the accordion and Paul on mandolin, classic guitar, and harmonica, they present a variety of musical entertainment that delights audiences of all ages.

MONDAY, APRIL 15TH

“Spring Ballet” presented by Stavna Ballet

Stavna Ballet is a Richmond-based professional dance company founded in 2010 by Artistic Director, Shannon Hunter McConville. They will captivate, enrich and inspire us through breathtaking artistry that explores the fusion of contemporary movement and the grace of classical ballet.

“A Night of Classical Piano” presented by Ariel Gilley

Born in Seoul, South Korea, classically trained pianist Ariel Gilley began playing complex pieces at the age of five. Since then, she’s performed with Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Yewon Orchestra, Buchon Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Royal Academy Orchestra. She began composing in 1993 after entering the Peabody Conservatory of Music and has earned a reputation for playing with superb technique and expressiveness.

“The U-2 Incident and a Son’s Search for the Truth” performed by Gary Powers

Join Gary Powers for a spellbinding presentation on the Cold War, U-2 Incident, misinformation that surrounded his father, and what he has done for the past 25 years to set the record straight. He will also talk about the Steven Spielberg movie, Bridge of Spies, and separate fact from fiction.

Oils of the Bible with Sharon Wayne10:00 AM - 12:30 PM in The Commons

There are numerous references throughout scripture regarding anointing oils used for ceremonial purposes. These anointing oils, such as cypress, frankinscene, and myrrh, often resemble the modern essential oils that are familiar today. Sharon Wayne will use history, science and scripture to explain the health benefit of oils, with a specific focus on oils used prior to Jesus’ resurrection.

FEE: $5.00, minimum of 5 participants.

“Traditional Scottish Fiddle Music”presented by Dr. John Turner

A versatile entertainer as well as the only 10-time National Scottish Fiddling Champion, Dr. John Turner has performed for six U.S.

Presidents, Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales, numerous other dignitaries, and on radio and television around the world. As founder and director of the Jink & Diddle School of Scottish Fiddling, he has taught Scottish fiddling style to thousands of musicians of all ages.

MONDAY, MAY 13TH

“Memorial Day Patriotic Music and Marches”presented by ACCA Shriners Million Dollar Band

Originating a century ago, the Million Dollar Band has a history of providing stirring and enthusiastic melodies. The all-volunteer concert band will get us in the Memorial Day-mindset with their renditions of notable patriotic songs. Their performance benefits the Shriners Children Hospitals.

MONDAY, MAY 20TH

“Spring Concert”presented by Covenant Woods’ Chorus, directed and accompanied by Sarah Williams

You don’t want to miss this special event! Covenant Woods’ Chorus will present a concert featuring Broadway music from the late fifties and early sixties. Come and sing along!

Hallowed Hills of Hollywood with Professor Alyson Taylor-White10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in The Commons

Since the 1840s, Richmond's historic Hollywood Cemetery has been a magnet for tourists as well as a beautiful park setting for a burial ground. This class, conducted by University of Richmond Professor Alyson Taylor-White, will explore the myths and local legends associated with this important landmark, as well as a discussion of some of the most famous occupants. It will also include a description of how to give an insider's tour of Hollywood that is entertaining and educational.

FEE: Class Fee: $10.00, minimum of 25 participants.

MONDAY, JUNE 3RD

“One Rockin’ Night” presented by The Taters

Known for their work in the Rock & Roll Jubilee, The Taters play an eclectic blend of power-pop & country roots. CD Baby calls them "a curious, accidental mix of the Mavericks, the Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and the Beatles". Now in their 22nd year together, they have released nine CDs and their music is played on stations around the world. For this performance, they will play familiar hits from the ‘50s-70s.

This program was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Covenant Woods’ Raymond T. Holmes, Jr. Community Services Fund, which seeks to bring the arts and cultural programming to seniors in the greater Hanover community.

“A Salute to Female Jazz” presented by Lucy Kilpatrick

Born in Washington, DC, Lucy Kilpatrick now calls Richmond home. She works locally with several bands, including her memorable Fall 2018 performance at Covenant Woods with Maroon Corey Trio. This program will touch briefly on the different styles of jazz piano from female artists of the early 20th century to today.

MONDAY, JUNE 10TH

“Tangier Island Doctor” presented by Bill Lohmann

Richmond Times-Dispatch columnist Bill Lohmann will tell the story behind “DR COPTR,” his new book about Dr. David Nichols, the Northern Neck physician and pilot who delivered medical care to Tangier Island for more than 30 years. Signed books will be available for $25.00 following the presentation.

“Juggling, Magic and More” presented by Jonathan Austin

Jonathan Austin has performed at venues such as The White House, The Kennedy Center, Walt Disney World and New York City's Central Park. His flair, timing, sense of humor and engaging personality is sure to bring an element of unparalleled fun and excitement to our stage.

Piano Lessonswith Greater Richmond School of Music (8 lessons)1:30 - 2:20pm (50 minutes)

Young at Heart Piano is a beginning group piano class for senior adults. If you have always wanted to learn to play the piano, now is your chance! Core piano playing concepts such as proper piano technique/posture, theory, and playing with expression are learned in a group, social setting, making the process rewarding and enjoyable. A keyboard (for in-class use) and music book will be provided. The term recital is optional and included in tuition. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation.

FEE: $170.00 per person, minimum of 3 participants.
