GLOBALIZATION

Globalization: the world’s economies and societies have become increasingly interlinked and interdependent on each other.

People, goods and services, and money all flow more easily across international borders.

Governments are joining together in trade organizations and political unions, like the European Union. This alliance of 27 European countries provides for barrier-free trade and open borders among all its member states.

GLOBALIZATION AND COMMUNICATION

Ideas are also moving across borders thanks to the many developments in communication technologies.

Transatlantic Cable: system of undersea cables that made communication across the Atlantic Ocean possible.

1830’s- The first major breakthrough in communication technology was the telegraph.

1876- Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.

1990’s- Internet becomes popular.
