Parents Making a Difference! This school year – make it a goal to become involved with your child’s education through being involved in the Parent Teacher Organi-zation - “PTO”. “PTG” or “PTA”. As a parent with a student in the school, you are a member of the PTO, and all meetings and events are open to you! PTO has many events, activities and fundrais-ers throughout the year. Please take the time to look through the school calen-dar, school e-newsletter and school district’s website. There are many ways to partici-pate: Volunteer in the classroom. Lend a hand at a PTO event. Join a committee. Do-nate your time to a fundraiser or classroom activity. Not only is PTO a wonderful way to get to know the students and other parents, but most importantly, you will enjoy the reward

of your student knowing that you believe what goes on at school is important enough for you to spend some of your time volun-teering. No amount of time is too little. Student benefits: Substantial evidence exists showing that parent involvement benefits students, including raising their academic achievement. Other advantages for children when parents become involved — includes, increased motivation for learning, improved behavior, more regular attendance, and a more positive attitude about homework and school in general. Teacher benefits: Parental involvement can free teachers to focus more on the task of teaching children. Also, by having more con-tact with parents, teachers learn more about students' needs and home environment. Parents who are involved tend to have a more positive view of teachers, which results in improved teacher morale.
