The conference will feature keynote speaker Mary Helen Immordino-Yang, Ed.D. She is an Assistant Professor of Education at the Rossier School of Education and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Brain and Creativity InstituteUniversity of Southern California, where she was formerly a joint postdoctoral fellow under the mentorship of Robert Rueda and Antonio Damasio. A former junior high school teacher, she earned her doctorate at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, where she was the recipient of grants from the Spencer Foundation and the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation. She is the Associate Editor for North America for the journal Mind, Brain and Education, and the inaugural recipient of the Award for Transforming Education through Neuroscience, co-sponsored by the International Mind, Brain and Education Society (IMBES) and the Learning and the Brain Conference. She lectures nationally and abroad on the implications of brain and cognitive science research for curriculum and pedagogy, including how the arts foster creativity, the latest neuroscientific and developmental evidence of what creativity really is and how it is grounded in emotional and cognitive processing.

In addition to the keynote speaker, performance keynotes by Resonance Story Theatre, and the dance theatre work “The Next Generation” designed for educators will be performed by UVU students and faculty from the school of Arts. Poster and breakout sessions dedicated to research in arts education, and hands-on workshops focused on art-specific pedagogy and integration in the K-12 classroom will be presented in dance, music, drama, visual arts, and digital technology. Conference participants will engage in hands-on methods and strategies based in current research to use within the K-12 and university classrooms.
